Final ball let us down too often tonight.

Thought Trent ran the show, everyone else was a bit meh.
Thats probably not true, its more like Curtis ran the show along with Trent amd Mo. But I guess its difficult to accept Curtis's role in these games.

For an apparently smart footballer, Gakpo made silly choices at the end rather than hanging onto the ball. Forgetable non UK TV covered match, we move on.

Certainly was a forgettable non televised match but it was also well managed by us…I couldn’t live if every game we played was like Spurs, Gakpo did fine, bought a few fouls, made some nice runs…looked like he wanted to try and get the 2nd to kill the game.

Looks like that Vinicius fella could have scored a few tonight if not for Ali's hands.

We still look too open in midfield and the defence couldn't cover the spaces taken up by their runners.

Fab was wank. Watching a 34 year old William glide past him while he was trying his very best to keep up should be the last straw, he can't start next season.

Did their keeper make a save? If so can't remember it. Noone played well. In the first half it was the final ball that was off. In the second it was every ball. Fucking rubbish.
Thought Trent was superb first half.

Alison was screaming at Virgil and Konate to close the gap in the centre of the defence. Fulham are very limited but even they couldn't fail to spot the very obvious flaw in our set up.

Fulham are the 7th best away team and have only conceded 22 goals. Only 3 teams have a better away record.
They made it difficult for us and are a good team.

3 points in the bag and we move on.

Early in the season that would be put down as a good professional win, if we were chasing something at this stage that would be classed as 3 valuable points and move on. End of season, with nothing to chase that was a bore fest. I'd rather a mad reds 4-4 draw than that poo at this stage

I think our expectations are still 'pre 2022/23 season' ... we're rebuilding (esp confidence and belief) and it's been a really good run for the club.
I'm very happy with the result and props to Silva for building a really good team ... with the right reinforcement next year, they may challenge for a conference spot.

If Brighton get a result against Utd today its still on. All to play for imho.

What a weird thing to say. Not sure if you’re joking or not. It’s still a win, a valuable 3 points and we move on.

we could have lost this, if it wasn't for Allison
he saved our arses with two top saves
True... But we won again. That Fulham DM showed what we have been missing all season in MF. His 28 and on 5 year contract, I wouldn't personally sign him, unless it was for under £40m but there is no chance of that.

I'm not getting this good professional performance thing. Yes TAA had a decent half hour, and yes we were generally good out of possession, but we created nothing of note because of sloppy passing and poor decision making when we had the ball. We were a goalie away from getting beat. Would we have scored if they didn't give a stupid pen away? Doubt it.

We beat Notts Forest 3-2 after three goals from set pieces and didn't look likely to score from open play. Same last night.

Biggest issue for me was the huge gaping chasm where gakpo would usually drop in to. Now, it'd be easy to say that's on Nunez, but he's playing as a proper 9, so one of the midfielders should have gone in to that space...but they weren't.

We were set up in our usual way but with Nunez the odd one out playing in a different system. For me that's on klopp for not 1) predicting that would happen, and 2) not changing it up sooner.

Our best chances came from hopeful punts over the top, either for Nunez or Salah to run on to.

We can't smash every team 6-1 playing tiki taka waka waka eh eh football.

Great teams find different ways to win.....we happen to win 2 domestic cups last season on pens, does anyone give a fuck how we won it? NO. Just that we did.

Yesterday we won playing about 50% and Ali was there to the rescue in each half when we needed him. That's what you pay almost 70m for....other than the 2 saves he made Fulham didn't really have a sniff.

I still can't quite understand how people will contemplate selling Ali to fund a rebuild of the squad.

He has easily won us 10 points this season and we don't even have that many points!

Very few keepers still playing today would have saved both the 2 shots from Vinicius.

The only reason people would contemplate selling Ali, Mo, Jota etc is because of resale value/cashing in at their or past their peak to rebuild as they don't see were else the funds to rebuild will come from.

I get it to an extent....we sold both Coutinho and Suarez at their peak for absurd money and we benefitted from it massively by being smart.

If we had owners like Todd or the Glazers or Kronhke's then it wouldn't even enter anyones minds.

A lot of chase. Finishing undefeated in 11 with 9 wins in a row will set us up to attract top talent and lift the doomsdays vibes.

There's definitely a slight issue with the blending upfront, it also doesn't help that if you take Trent out the equation, the midfield has little creativity.

Diaz, Nunez and Gapko don't produce many goals generally, they are all good players, Diaz especially so, but I think it will take a while to get consistent numbers from the three of them. If you play Salah and Jota we tend to look more of a threat, but again the balance isn't quite right because Jota doesn't give you enough in terms of build up play. It'll take a while to get back to the level where we had Salah, Mane and Firmino weighing in with the goals AND creativity between them on a consistent basis.

TBH i think last night showed that we need to play with a false 9, as that enables the wingers to cut in and create chances for the space created by the 9 dropping deep. Every single one of players is drilled to play that way; why change it for 1 match needlessly? I get to rest Gakpo, but surely we have to then tweak the position of the midfield to get the most out of the chasm of space thats left. Either jones to run more central or play elliott opposite side to drift in.

I wonder what would happen if we played diaz as a false 9 on occasion. He has the pace, vision and close control to work there, as well as a rifle of a shot.

If we want to rest gakpo, would the following work?

Nunez/Jota -------Diaz------Salah
