Leicester post-match

Attacking player with pace, skill and scoring boots who can unlock tight defenses. Salah I think has shown he can play across the front 3 and has already gotten the break through goal for us a number of times.

For me the priority went

LB
GK
Winger
CB
ST
CM
CB
How you can have CB as low as 4th is baffling. Even Klopp had it #1 - we were just obstinate and fucked it up.

Liverpool have conceded 10 goals in our first three away league games, the first time we have conceded so many since the 1965 season.

Only three clubs in the entire league have conceded more goals than us, and two of those are in the bottom three.

Klopp: “It’s obvious we concede too much. There’s no doubt. Usually, I’m a really good defensive coach"

Ahahaha. Ahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Still, at least he is - at long fucking last - admitting his failings and what the team requires. He should probably have been able to spot it earlier, given all of us non-expert divvies could have told him all that a year ago, and this summer.

Oh well, better late than never.

Never a dull moment watching us at the moment. I am, by turns, excited and anxious. My palms sweat, I find myself shouting instructions to everyone and no-one, being irritated beyond belief and then a feeling of utter relief when the full-time whistle blows and we've managed to hang on for a victory.

There's no enjoyment in it, it's just stressful. I'm not sure my ticker can take this indefinitely.

I'm sure Clyne put some dodgy performances in early on in his career too. What I am saying, is that he is past his sell by date now. The other two are for the future, TAA as full back, Gomez as central defender. I'd stick with TAA and let him gain more experience in the league games. Play Clyne in the European games for now, and in the league when resting TAA.
Overall I'm with Dave on this. As I've stated before Clyne as a defender is the best RB we have, but not as good as TAA in the top half, which is often where we are camped.

However TAA is young and we all know that youngsters, particularly as young as he is, are going to be inconsistent and have the occasional stinker as they learn.

I'd use Clyne in those games where we are going to be under obvious pressure at RB and TAA/Gomez in others. Overall it's nice to know we have options.

I just really want to see Robertson used more at LB and hope January sees the CB issue finally resolved, partially at least.

If we're "camped in the top half" so often, how come we concede so many fucking goals? Is it possibly because all of our defenders are shit?

I couldn't care less how great TAA or Gomez is in the opposition half, if they can't defend and constantly make mistakes, they can fuck off. The performances of those two haven't been anywhere near good enough, and Clyne's return cannot come soon enough.

The juniors at your office must love you Brendan.

Really not sure about that. I like Matip and still hold out hope that with 1 or2 better players around him he could be really good, but I thought he was nervy and unsettled all game yesterday to be honest. Vardy played for it but that free kick he gave away which led to the corner for them to get it back to 2-1 had my blood boiling - was fucking daft.

Heh, its weird as Liverpool.no gave him an 8 and said he continued his season with another good performance. Which is what myself and my Liverpool mates think as well.

Strange. But who cares as long as we won. 🙂

How fucking slow is Matip?! (got to be carrying an injury hasn't he? Fucks sake). Although I thought the freekick prior to the first goal was soft, if he'd been moving even at Jan Molby knots he wouldn't have had a problem in the first place.

I think Clyne has only taken flack for not improving his final ball and the disappearance of his attacking threat - not sure anyone has claimed he isn't the real deal defensively. He'd clearly walk straight back into this side at the mo. My question is, with him out injured, why hasnt Milner been pushed into use on that side? Surely he'd find it just as easy (if not easier) than his stint last year at LB...

And The Echo gave him 5/10 and said he was utterly dreadful, especially in the second half.

I don't know who Liverpool.no are, but if they give ratings that you and "your Liverpool mates" agree with, I'll probably give it a swerve.

This is him isnt it:

Quite. Consistency is what you need first & foremost from your defensive players.

There's a reason CB's rarely look impressive on a regular basis in their early careers & often play other positions for the first team until they're older & then drop back to CB.

As for Clyne being "past it" at 26, that's just utter shite, it's arguably the best couple of years of a fullbacks career, they have enough experience to be solid defensively but still have the pace to enable them to get forwards, joining the attack or stretching the opposition without overly compromising their defensive duties.

There's a reason Milner got so much praise for doing the job so well at his age last season, & it's not cos it's commonplace for an older player to play so well at full back.

Its the official Liverpool supporter website for Norway, about 40k members. Swerve it all you like Brent. Fuck if we/I care.

Aye you're probably right, he's never ever been able to spot the team's defensive inadequacies until a lightbulb moment last weekend.

The Echo gave Gomez a 6 and Matip a 5. I'd give those ratings a swerve based on just that.

Well for that you need to research (I know that's a weak point of yours) how the goals were conceded. Were they from 'breakaways' ? Not that many if memory serves me right. In which case it's basic defending and as we know it's normally from or around set pieces. I'd be interested to see the breakdown myself but have no time to research it until I get back to Shanghai. @King Binny ?

You think we needed a winger more than a CB and you don't think we needed a DM?!?!!

Are you Jurgen Klopp? Because that's just about as fucking Mongy as he is.

In what world did we need a winger more than a CB?! Is it in the world where we aren't conceeded 2 goals a game and dropped out of one cup whilst dropping points to Watford, City and Seville already?

Jesus Pat.

Ha ha. The world before we sold Lucas, Klavan went from average to absolutely shite and where Lovren went from above average to dog shite. And Matip went from excellent to average.

Missing Clyne has shown the difference a good full back can make and if we had Clyne and a quality LB with Matip and Lovren of last season then ya I'd go a Winger everytime as I thought we struggled against weaker sides to score. Something Salah helped with massively

If it was no1 he'd had bought someone.

We never even Fucking bid for VVD.
You know that an official bid has fuck all to do with the price of bread. If Southampton would have acceded to let him go we'd have been all over him .. and you know it so why bother to try to pooh pooh it ? That's just being belligerent for the sake of it .

C'mon, it's a bit ridiculous to criticize a GK for the way the saved a penalty. It's one of the hardest things to do in football and any way you can do it deserves only praise. BTW Ming saved 7 out 15 penalties he's faced in the EPL, it's a strong point of his game.

If he didn't give them away he wouldn't have to save them...

We backed off at the start of the window if CB was no1 then we would have gotten someone else or at least bid.

Klopp didn't see it as that much of a burning issue at the time.

Obviously if he'd known how shite every defender would be become he might of but that wasn't my point.

In the summer it was the highest priority for me and it obviously wasn't for Klopp either.

So Klopp met with VVD in 'secret' because he wasn't the highest priority. Riiight.

He was a player we wanted just wasn't no1.

Based on what? The stories about the meet came out at the start of the Summer, before we signed Salah. I'm not sure there's a sure order of priority to be drawn from that, but I'd wager offering to pay £60m and getting caught with our pants down early in the Summer, meant that he was high up the list of wanted players.

You don't half make some random assumptions and absurd claims, based on next to fuck all.

Of all the people in the entire world who could be viewed as an authority on who was, or wasn't, our no 1 choice, you'd be in the bottom three.
So the odds of me being less reliable than DB are less than 2 in 7,442,000,000,000. That's reassuring
