So what kind of team can we expect against Leeds? The starters have to be rested, naturally, but we definitely want to progress in the Cup and there are fewer first-teamers in need of game time available now due to injuries.

Against Spurs it was:
  • Simon Mignolet
    image.php
  • 17Ragnar Klavan
  • 66Trent Alexander-Arnold
    image.php
    image.php
  • 21Lucas Leiva
  • 18Alberto Moreno
  • 53Ovie Ejaria
  • 16Marko Grujic
    image.php
    image.php
  • 5Georginio Wijnaldum
  • 35Kevin Stewart
  • 27Divock Origi
    image.php
  • 15Daniel Sturridge
Substitutes
  • 6Dejan Lovren
  • 20Adam Lallana
  • 2Nathaniel Clyne

  • 28Danny Ings

  • 1Loris Karius
  • 19Sadio Mané
  • 23Emre Can
The U23 team plays on Monday, and maybe we can look for clues then, but almost none of the "first team" youngsters participated in the last U23 game. Will Joe Gomez play vs Leeds or is it too soon? Will Woodburn or Ojo get a start? Judging by Klopp's selections in the cups last season, he won't be afraid to put his trust in the youngsters.

The defense will be:
AA - Klavan - Lucas - Moreno

CM - tough to tell - we have to keep the 3 CMs ready for PL (Hendo, Gini & Can) ... so tough call here.

Up font - we'll see Origi for sure.

Has Ojo been training at all? I didn't see him anywhere in the training pictures and he didn't participate in the U23's game either. It has been reported that he's returned to full training with the first team on Nov 14, no peep since then. We desperately need another attacker if Studge is injured. @Modo, have you seen any training pics with Ojo lately?

Nope.

If Sturridge, Ojo, Firmino and Lallana are not fit for Tuesday, which looks likely, then the only attacking players I can think of are Origi, Woodburn and possibly Wijnaldum. If all 3 start, there is nobody to put on the bench, except maybe Mane. Really shit timing with Sturridge's injury.

I'm not sure we'll see Origi start. He played 60 mins yesterday and is the only fit striker for next weekend, away at Bournemouth.

He's barely played any football this season so would be disappointed if he didn't play

He's been training, but he's also been in the gym a lot. He's still growing and he's had a serious back fracture, so there's a very cautious schedule in place with a view to him stepping back up over the Christmas period.

We need to win a trophy, we're not in Europe, we really don't need to mess around with the first team too much, and Leeds are much better organised since Monk arrived there, so I'd rather we played at least the first half with a pretty settled side, try and do the job asap and then bring on three youngsters for half an hour.

Ming
Alex Arnold Lucas Klavan Moreno
Gruijc Stewart Can
Ejaria Origi Wijnaldum

Origi subbed after 50-60 mins.

The attack is looking stretched at the moment.

I think with Sturridge, Lallana and Coutinho all out Firmino probably has to start alongside Origi.

Yup, chuck as many players that you've not even seen that much and then sit back for a match thread where you'll all be ranting about how bad the players are, how disorganised the team is, how Klopp was stupid for throwing on all those players you've listed on here, and how lousy it is that you've just been bombed out the cup for not taking the opponents seriously. It's one of the few predictable things in football - fan hubris.

I think most will understand if he does ring the changes because the game is already on Tuesday.
And its the league cup, at home to Leeds. For the developmemt of some of our players ouside the first team its essential that they're involved.

An almost identical team played very well against Spurs.

Half of their team were youths or reserves as well.

I get what Macca is saying. We can't just underestimate Leeds who will definitely be up for it.

I'd go with something like:

---------------------Mignolet

Clyne--------Matip---------Klavan---------Moreno

----------------Lucas-------Henderson

----------------------Grujic
Mané---------------------------------------Milner
----------------------Origi

Yeah, no one is going to underestimate Leeds.
Its more not taking a risk with some of these players fitness if we dont have to.
Some were already struggeling before the game yesterday according to Klopp.

And the league cup should be used to play the first teamers who are not starting every week. We need to keep their match fitness up aswell.

The team I set up should beat Leeds.

I don't know if Klopp will consider playing with 3 at the back - doesn't look too likely, but in the other hand our U23 side played 3 at the back in the last game and I think it would make sense given our squad imbalance with lack of attackers (particularly natural wingers) at the moment. Something like this:

----------------Mignolet----------------
----Gomez----Lucas----Ragnar----
---------Stewart--------Grujic---------
Trent---------------------------Moreno
---------Wijnaldum----Ejaria---------
-------------------Origi------------------

surely we'll go stronger then the XI that played spurs?

Mignolet Clyne Klavan Gomez Moreno Lucas Stewart Grujic Milner Wijnaldum Origi

Would like to see Sakho but i know we won't.

Isnt it to soon for Gomez though?

Of course not. Play Ings while we're at it. He can wear a bandage. And maybe someone from the under 12s for the last ten minutes. There's nothing better when you're facing a team of experienced cloggers, bullies and brutes to bung on fresh-faced kids and invalids who get alarmed in under 23 games when they actually get tackled. It'll be a breeze.

I think we'll field a similar line-up as against Spurs..............and I think if we do we will have problems. I was hugely unimpressed with Spurs kids/2nd team against us and thought we sould have won by more. Leeds are a very solid mid-table Championship and will be treating this game as a cup final. I've backed Leeds to win @ 14/1 in lieu of us playing a similar lie-up as the last round.

I watched the Leeds - Newcastle game and cant say I was to impressed by Leeds.
They'll work hard obvioulsy and be a threat from set pieces.

I'll trust Klopps judgement with how he sets up the end in the end. We do have a lof of injuries and players out at the moment though.
