Skrtel struggled in this game, didn't he? A few pundits predicted that Sakho would lose out under Klopp, but Sakho was very much OK, which cannot be said of Skrtel who didn't look comfortable all game. Is this the high line? Was it really noticeably higher than under Rodgers? I watched on a small TV and couldn't really tell. But it was unusual to see Skrtel so indecisive, it looks like he didn't have time to absorb the new instructions and was often caught between following his instincts or the coach's orders. I'm sure he'll get better, but this was a shaky start for him under the new regime.

I thought Sakho was immense defensively, but he made a couple awful passes that we could have been punished for. He should be able to improve this aspect with good coaching; for now the same problems he's had since his first season are still there.

Clyne was superb. Please stay healthy...

Moreno is half the player when he is forced to stay in defense most of the time, and that's what was happening for most of the game. Klopp will need to find a way to get him consistently involved in our attacking moves even when he's playing as full-back rather than a wing-back.

Thoughts?

The three incidents with Skrtel - I thought with two of them he was put under unnecessary pressure, one was a shit pass back from Lallana that sold him well short, the other was a slip that can happen to anyone. There was one other where he hesitated slightly and their player got in behind him.

That said, I've thought since preseason that he's looked a yard off the pace. Early decline? It seems that way.

I agree with your observation re today's incidents - not much to blame him for.
I don't think it's a case of early decline. I still see him as the corner stone of our defence.

pretty much. but he didnt give Kane an inch in the second half

BTW:
OPTA Stats: Liverpool (116km) became the first team to run further than Spurs (114.8km) in a Premier League game this season.

We still need to add another 4km, wow...

I thought Skrtel looked very dodgy in the first half playing with a higher defensive line than he is used to and there was one time where he failed to make the tackle and the game just went past him .. he then jogged back eventually slotting back into position thanks to Clyne holding up the attacker close to the line. Also the incident where he failed to control the ball properly and N'Jie pinched it off him but luckily shot just over.

He was vastly improved in the 2nd half bar the episodes mentioned. It may simply be a case of learning how to adjust to the new tactics .. but I was less than impressed with that jogging when he should have been full pelt to cover Clyne. I'm not sure he's going to have the pace or stamina to play to Klopp's higher line consistently.

Thanks Farky. Sakho had an excellent game yesterday and is proving he's the player many of us thought he was. Do you have the Skrtel performance too ?

HRMMMMMMMMM probably not because he's not the hot new shit getting all bugeyed at the bitters.
All I've done is CTRL-C CTRL-V, brought to you by scotch ganga and empathy.

All the credit goes to the sad fucks who compile. I mean, the content generators, noble art thou.

Lets say back 5 as I think Ming looked better aswell. We were more Alan Hansenesque with "when in doubt kick it out" then the always play it short and to your centre backs.
I thought we looked more balanced. We kept our positions better and the two/three times we were caught out it was because of personal mistakes.

Skrtel did look a yard off pace the entire first half. Yes he was given a few bad passes but he was very indecisive.
He dealt brilliantly with Kane in the second half though. If there is one in that back 4 that could be replaced its Skrtel. Sounds like Klopp really rates Gomez so the injury was a shame.
Sakho bar a few misplaced passes in the first half was outstanding.

Clyne was excellent and Moreno good. I think Klopp will get something out of Moreno as there is something to work with there but as Rurik says we need to get him more involved.

To me Moreno is a complete liability.

Apart form his pace and energy, what is there?

His positioning is awful, decision-making and game intelligence close to zero.
He is ridiculously one-footed, so much that it really hampers his game. That is not on at this level.
He is also slow to react, and not least a bit of a shithouse, shying away from tackles, turning his back to crosses.
The people who signed him for, what was it 16 mill, should be sacked immediately.

I will leave it at that. Someone might think I have an agenda. It is certainly brewing though.

So... not a huge fan?

Moreno is not a player that required encouragement, and it shows in this last game. He was all "fuck yea heavy metal I'll run wherever I want." what he needs is discipline, and regardless of what you make of his potential, klopp has no choice but to instill that in him and try to develop him as a player. There are worse traits than being over eager. clyne on the other hand was as steady as ever, and added just a bit, and was one of our best players. He's the one that could come out of his shell a bit more.

We kept a clean sheet, so that's huge positive. Two players I have never rated, Mignolet and Sakho, were very good indeed. I like Clyne a lot, and he was also on good form.

Skrtel and Moreno had mixed afternoons to say the least, and there were still a few too many instances of totally inexcusable hospital balls and silly fouls in and around our defence, with Lucas and Can culpable

Overall I was happy enough with Skrtel. A couple of dodgy moments that, as Mark said, were beyond his control, but overall he kept their main threat very quiet indeed.

Clyne Sakho and Mignolet were excellent but we still don't have the LB thing sorted.

Had it been any other premiership team outside the top 4 we probably would have won.
Spurs were just as up for it as we were.
