Supposing Klopp guides us to number 19, where would he rank amongst the really great managers the club has had the past? In my book he would be on par with Rafa, who took us to two CL final winning 1 of them.

Nah he surpasses Rafa and winds up just below Shanks, Paisley and Fagan.
Edit. And Dalglish

He'd be beyond Rafa, easily, IMHO. The league has never looked tougher to win, and once you add to that the huge weight of expectation and insecurity we've acquired year on year, it would be an incredible feat.

There would be a strong case to put him past Fagan.

Bob and Bill are untouchable.

Kenny is more attainable but he’d need big ears too

That’s a tough one with Fagan and probably for one of the older lot to answer better than I can.

Fagan was manager for 2 seasons, and won the treble in his first season albeit after taking over the best team in Europe. He didn’t win anything in his second but finished second in the league and got us to the European Cup final and then retired. Klopp winning the league title this season would be a greater achievement given the task at hand but I still don’t know who I’d consider.

I don't think Klopp winning the league this season will elevate him to be a greater manager than those we have won the league with previously or even Rafa for that matter. If he wins both this season then 'Yes' that takes him above Rafa, and GH. We need to consider what he has to work with too in this case, and I don't think anyone should under-estimate what GH achieved by winning those 3 cups in one season and getting us qualification for the CL in the same season.

I see Klopp as someone who is a manager that is restoring belief in the club itself (in his own words when he first signed up). We are at that point but we have won nothing and a single league title does not and nor should it make him better than Rafa, or even GH, so he has a long way to go before he exceeds Kenny and a very long way to go to rate him above the previous three managers. If we win the league this season - I want it to mean more than just a single league win - I want it to mean that we really are at the top and will be challenging realistically for the next 10 seasons.

Exactly he continued the winning run but didnt do much new ground work.

If Klopp pulls it off it will be a miracle

29 years would disagree with you.

The league is still and always will be the acid test.

It’s harder now that ever to win it

My friend. I disagree a bit with you. What Klopp has done and the way we are on positioning ourselves as one of the real powerhouse of modern football should not be measured in silverware only. We are now regarded globally as one of the finest and most feared teams in the world.

If he wins the league he goes ahead of Rafa and Ged in my estimation. But the likes of Shanks, Paisely and to a lesser extent Kenny are untouchable in terms of what they mean to the club.

A better question might be if he falls short where does that leave him. He couldnt be considered better than Rafa or GH without any major trophies but hed have to be ranked ahead of the likes of Rodgers, Evans and Souey in terms of overall impact, although you could argue that Rodgers started the revival and Klopp has continued his work.

That team out there right now is not a Rodgers team in terms of both personnel and philosophy.
I just can’t agree that Klopp’s continuing on what Rodgers started. Klopp reset everything. IMO.

I think Rodgers was an important step in the rebuilding process post Hicks & Gilett era. Some of the mainstays from Rodgers time are still in the team/squad now. Im not suggesting its just Rodgers team with a new manager but I dont think it would be fair to write off the groundwork that was done by Rodgers.

But the first choice 11 consists of Firmino who Rodgers didn’t know how to play, plus Milner and that’s it.
I don’t want to downplay what Rodgers did in his second season but I think what Klopp’s built is something completely different.

Unfortunately despite what Klopp has done - we have still to this date won nothing. When history compares him - they will always look at the achievements of a manager in terms of silverware.

Now as for @Dreambeliever - my response to you is that those years we have not won - if we take the early years pre - Chelsea, City Money being put into the mix - it was mainly down to BAD management by owners and giving too much time to managers to construct '5-year' plans to win a league when in reality we needed to change our managers when they did not look like achieving their targets. The team we had in the 90's was good enough to win the league but failed to do so due to ill-discipline. The big teams in the continent change their managers if they start to fuck up - and I have come to the conclusion it was the right thing to do because you won't find a Barcalona, Juve, or Bayern not winning the league in 20 years.

Just because we have been doing a continuous fuck up for 29 seasons in not winning the league it does not mean that Klopp winning the league will make him great - you guys have such short memories - think back to when we were dominant, and think back to the European Champions in that era ? - Forest, Aston Villa and the likes of Ipswich, and Spurs winning the UEFA Cup. Yes that's right - when Bob was winning shit - he was to a degree (well in reality not to a degree) up against potential European Champions in our own domestic league. That was nothing small and is more challenging than what Klopp is facing now.

It’s harder now than any time in history to win the title.

Tbh if he wins 1 he could win a few... This team can get even better... That's the scary thought.

2 premier league's and a champions League and he's up there with Kenny then in my eyes

As City are showing and Chelsea before them, it’s extremely hard to win back to back titles.

Having said that this team Milner aside are all a few years off 30 so we should stay in the mix as long as Klopp is around

Pretty sure Wjinaldum was also a Rodgers signing as were Gomez and Lovren.
