Broughton and Pursssssslow would never have risked appointing Kenny, simply because they know how powerful, respected and loved he is, and that would be unconscionable in a Liverpool manager under them. He'd be too influential.

A new low.

RAWK would welcome you with open arms.

if you believe some idiots on here they'll tell you kenny wasn't given the job to protect his reputation with us.

You never did answer the question of what name you'd give Kenny had he achieved the same results as Hodgson.

as a child i stood in the kop and watched dalglish play. as a young man i stood and watched him manage a team that won the league. he's earned more than 4 games. as far as i'm concerned i know that kenny would know if he weren't good enough and would step aside. people like rafa and now hodgson will never do that.

How many managers would do that! 'Oh, I'm not good enough, - will step aside"?

A key requisite in good managers is self-belief. Another is dtermination. Both preclude honest assessments of 'being good enough'

Who has admitted as much? Keegan? Maybe Souness at Liverpool?

That's about it

I just think it's really important. He'll know every player he comes up against, the tactics of each squad, etc, etc. He's also widely connected in the game which helps with scouting and so forth. I'm not saying Kenny has been living in a cave all these years, but it was an issue for me.

Cole, Mereles and Konchesky all look like they'll be decent signings at this point, which is a small indication, but like you say, time will tell.

I fully admit if I'd grown up in a different era I suspect I would have been in the Dalglish camp - but I'm still far more optimistic than most with regards to Hodgson. This season we'll still finish 5-7th, but if we get new owners and they keep faith with him, I think he can get us back into the top four and competing with the big boys again. This is a year of stabilisation - one to ensure we don't slip further backwards and one to boost up squad moral. If we get new owners the stakes will rightly be raised.

That suggests nostalgia was the main reason why so many of us wanted Kenny to get the job. It wasn't. Those of us who held that view wanted Kenny for what he could have brought to the job today, and don't see why the board would have appointed him as its lead adviser on the managerial appointment if he were out of touch as you and others hint. Roy's here now and I agree that it's far too early to write him off, but that's a different issue.
