Keita off?

Naby is very frustrating. He has the highest ceiling of all our midfielders. On his day he's our best presser, can take part in excellent intricate passing and movement in the box and has a decent shot on him. However we see this max 3-4 games a season. I'm definitely a Naby fan boy but I'm ready to see him gone, and I fear any more injuries will really impact the price we could get for him.

I think the days of getting a fee for Naby are pretty much over unless we do the unthinkable and give him a new contract.

Awful lot of players leaving on a free in the summer. Firmino too. We'll either have to spend a large chunk or put up with a massively depleted squad

Do the management have a blind spot here or do they have a cunning plan?
It's a good question because by not augmenting the squad and phasing out some of the players in the last couple of years they've allowed this situation to exist. It may be they're banking on youngsters filling some of those gaps. Can't see it personally

Yeah, I think there has been a significant drop off in intensity in the Bundesliga over the last few years and it shows in regards to how players adapt or succeed in the Premier league.

Fwiw Ligue 1 has seen an increase in its reputation as the second most physical and intense league after the Premier league. So it will be interesting to see how the likes of Botman, Kamara, Onana and Doucoure will adapt this season.

Tchouameni would have been an excellent signing for us, and we should probably keep looking at Ligue 1 for a new midfielder.
He came from Monaco, whose most famous export was Mbappe.
I've mentioned who they've just bought and who else they have in MF so I won't repeat it.
I'm predicting regardless of the result with Southampton, we will lose at least another player to injury, such is our luck

We play Southampton in November.

I'm assuming that with Jurgen's contract extension that these sort of forward matters would have been discussed?

We often hear of elite managers wanting to satisfy themselves that sufficient resources are available before committing themselves.

I fully believe they thought that they could go to the well with Milner/Hendo one more time and buy themselves 12 months for Elliot or Jones to emerge as a viable option as a midfield starter.

Its a huge gamble, that relies on completely ignoring the age and injury record of our squad. like the time they thug they could get through a season with 3 CBs.

That's almost certainly what happened.

Frustrating because we lose another year of VVD, Salah, Alisson et al and for what.

Why do I get the feeling that we're harder on Naby than Ox?

Ox at the very least performed for half a season and was consistently very good in his first(?) season. Also, when he gets injured it tends to be on the pitch.

Keita seems to get injured doing fuck all

Why do I get the feeling that we're harder on Naby than Ox?

The reason why people are harder on Naby than Ox is because no one thinks that Ox is relevant to our team in any way. He's just a very expensive mascot keeping medical staff in a job. If Naby was out for months and months at a time the idiots that think he's one of our best midfielders would just forget about him.

I feel like I'm jumping on the bandwagon here, but we are clearly lacking in the midfield department, and surely Captain intensity and Dr Klopp can see that

separately, Salah's been fairly anonymous for a while now.

I kinda hoping Ox & Milner get their contracts extended - for entertainment value on here.

The… let’s call it… “foaming” would be next level.
Millie should replace Spearing and Ox as club ambassador.
I reckon Ox will do well in Germany

We are so going to extend Naby's contract this season. Klopp loves him. For all the fuss his agent is creating through the media, he is not going to get LFC salary at Dortmund or RB Leipzig, or any other club in the Bundesliga which is not Bayern. And Bayern is not going to offer him a contract. It will be ideal for FSG as they can point to Naby's contract and then restrict our purchase to one midfielder next summer.

How does Klopp love him? He dumped him out of two huge games for being a useless shithouse of the highest order.

He was that shit on those two particular instances. But I would not be surprised if Klopp still believes Naby's talent can be unlocked and there is a redemption arc there.

2 reasons, one we all gave up on Ox years ago. There's no point. Two Ox would rip your hand off for a new Liverpool contract, Keita has delusional visions of himself as our talisman who is being disrespected by the lack of game time he gets.

"He's just a little injury prone. He's still good he's still good"

"He's just got a little angina, he's still good he's still.."

He's shit

"I know"

Gotta admit Keita has now officially replaced Harry Kewell as our most disappointing signing ever for me. I don't usually get hyped on the highlights too much but everything I saw from him genuinely led me to believe we're getting an upgraded version of peak Kante who was exactly what we needed.

The confidence of the club being prepared to wait a year for him to arrive just raised the level of expectation and excitement, but it turned out the club was a bit like the class idiot patiently awaiting the reunion with his girlfriend who has gone on a student exchange - before she returns with extra 10 kilos and a case of chlamydia

I was also looking forward big time to his arrival. He tore it up in the Bundesliga, was mustard keen to come to us and, as you say, looked to be exactly the right kind of MF for us at the time. It's the pace and power of football in this country that has done for him.
