Happy with this signing and for a good price too.
As people have stated, he was voted second best goalkeeper in the Bundisliga just behind Neuer yet people are still claiming he's shit having probably never seen more than a couple of YouTube clips.
Typical SCM.

Nobody is claiming he is shit. Hardly anyone has seen him play. What some are saying is that a variety of reports said he isn't great with high balls, likes punching, and isn't that tall for a keeper.

Who knows if those reports are accurate? They may well be as accurate as those that claim he's the second best keeper in Germany.

I know fuck all about this fella.

He looks like a proper stereotypical German though. As much as I loved/love hamaan, you don't look at a him & think "He's German him", whereas you look at this fella & immediately picture him starring in a black & white war film wearing an SS uniform.

According to Squawka, Karius had 82 claim attempts (1 failed) to 16 punches last season. For comparison, Timo Horn had 66 (2 failed) to 18 punches, Mignolet 83 (9 failed) to 17 punches.

Fucking hell. 9 failed. Ming is 9 times fail-ier than Karius.

To be fair, he's probably got a 9 times fail-ier defense in front of him too. Well, to the left anyway. So maybe 4 and a half.

That defense let in just one more cross than the defense in front of Karius though, so it seems he is already used to playing behind very faily defenses

I can't wait to hear him yelling "SCHNELL!" at our defence.

Big difference noticed here is 74% saves which is an improvement on Ming, however it's the 122 saves to 70 that's exciting! Means he had more shots to deal with and saved a fuck load more while conceding the same amount Ming did with less shots to save. Also 0 errors leading to goals.. let's hope he becomes to us what De Gea is to United and wins is haves by himself.

Out of curiosity, have many goalkeepers moved from Bundasliga to the Premier league in the past? I'm struggling to think of many outside of Lehman.

They are that Stats that certainly opened my eyes.. it is a massive improvement on ming...

Right. I'll go first. I think he'll be between the sticks first game of the season. Anyone else?

I dunno. He has been given the Number one shirt, but that's irrelevant given Mignolet doesn't wear it anyway.

One would hope it depends on performance levels, and one hopes they're sufficiently impressive to make him the incumbent.

Didn't really think about the number. Just hoping he's better than what we have, which is why Klopp bought him, ergo he'll be Klopp's nummer eins.

Supremely unlikely.

People have been going round and round on this looking for Klopps angle and mystery strategy. I dont think there is one. He gave Ming all the plaudits and a 5yr contract because he genuinely thinks hes a viable first choice goalie, and hes signed youth at a very reasonable price to provide appropriate squad depth and challenge to a first team player, and will see where his potential takes him.

People were chirping on about the 5yr contract being a smokescreen and protecting his resale value while we were actually looking to sign a quality top tier goalie; which now looks like delusional bollocks.

Maybe Klopp does see him as a quality top-tier goalkeeper?

He's only 22, but then De Gea was 21 when United signed him, Courtois was winning La Liga at the same age, and Cech was number 1 at Chelsea at the age of 21.

Age isn't that important. As I've said, my only slight concern is his height (those three are all miles taller than him), and the predilection for punching rather than catching.

But we won't know until we get to see him play for Liverpool. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

If were saying this dude is in the same bracket as De Gea, Courtois and Cech, then jackpot. But I dont think hes the type of 20m+ signing those saying Mignolet was definitely getting bombed out at the end of the season for, were thinking of (Ter Stegen, Butland, et al)
