If our policy is we don't go in for players who are in champions league then it's wrong.

yes, we needed left winger, yes we need someone with passing range (although some would argue we have that already) but I definately think along with ability kenny was looking for players with character and grit who wont disappear in a fight, or do you disagree with this?

Tbh I think we need Downing more than we need Mata.

Obviously Mata is an excellent footballer, but he's not a natural left winger. His best position is behind the striker, and we have more than enough attacking midfielders than we deploy out wide.

I'd love us to sign Mata, but not at the expence of Downing. Sell Jova, Cole and Aqua then obvisouly Mata would be a very good addition.

That said, how is the assists thing misinformed, he'll cross/pass the ball and someone will score = assist. There can't be much more to it can there? I've watched his video and that's generally the gist of it, he crossed and passed the ball several times and a player scored.

What am I missing?

disregarding the value of assists in general as a method for judging a player for now. History shows you can buy a player who can give you ten assists for less than five million. If assists is what we want, why dont we buy them at a cheaper price?

for the record , i'm not overly excited with the transfers we've got this window so far ...all have questions marks over whether or not they can step up to the level required. One thing i am positive about is we signed them before having to sell players and also , i reckon if we can function well as a team and get back into the champs league or even better , then i am sure next season we will see signings with the fancy names everyone craves . As fans we all want to challenge for everything straight away but considering the nightmare of the last few seasons , i'll happily take where we are now and what we doing .
