I'm torn on this.

Whilst he's probably a good player,we really shold have focussed on more important areas like CB,LB and especially the flanks.

Not to mention that getting in another midfielder will strengthen the Old Cunt's hand with regards Aquilani.

We look like we're going to take a massive massive hit on him.

I wonder if he's our new right-side option. Certainly sooner him than Barton.
 
given the theory that there'll be an outgoing or 2 to offset the signing of henderson (and presumably adam as well), thought it was worth mentioning that there's a bit of debate on twitter about the possibility of meireles being available.

can't see it happening, personally, but it's got to be said that of our existing midfielders he'd be the one most disposable. lucas and spearing are different kinds of players, and both just signed new deals, so i can't see either of them going, and gerrard's, well, he's gerrard, isn't he.

imo none of them will be sold, but it's pretty hard to see where they all fit in.

Oi I'm not talking about Final Victory (TM).

I'm talking about potential battle errors.
 
Peter - disagree. Recent improvement notwithstanding (in fact, because of it to some extent), I still see Lucas as the most disposable. Spearing's better at the defensive stuff and Meireles is light years ahead of him on the attacking front, while the fact that he's shown real improvement would ramp up what we could charge for him. The signing of a new contract could just as well be a way of making sure that the fee stays at a reasonable level.
 
Wasnt Meireles pushing for a pay rise recently?

I still wouldnt be surprised to see Lucas sold
 
to be fair, if you assume we'l get 10 mill for aquilani, our net spends still only been like 3 mill, think we could see a lot more players coming in

the story i heard was he came on a low contract (£30k/week or so) with the understanding that he'd get a rise at the end of the season if he performed well to more what you'd expect him to be on, probably double that i guess.

jules - i'm no massive fan of lucas, but i see him as pretty important atm because imo he's clearly our best DM and we don't seem to be going for any kind of replacement. i just don't see him being sold. just my opinion, i could be wrong.

i dont think itl be our regular formation, but we'l have the players to manage it, and its a good formation to pull out the bag depending on the opposition

No one wants him sold. I think people are just curious as to why we are being linked to so many midfielders.

There was reports that Raul was having a dispute over his wages and perhaps people are reading a bit much into it.
 
We have a lot of midfielders but only or two players who we can really trust to get us back into top 4. We really are quite week as far as CMs are concerned, anyone who thinks different is a bit mad...

I can see something like this being our midfield in many games:

Henderson............Ming/Lucas.............Gerrard..............Adam

If we play 4-3-3 we'll only need one.....kuyt and suarez can play wide of carroll with someone like downing (or preferably someone better) pushing them for their places!
