After watching Barnes talking about racism I realised I can only really remember him playing towards the end of his career (in the centre if I'm not mistaken). So off I went to youtube.

Seems he could do it all. Dribble, pass, good left and right foot, goal scoring, heading and free kicks.

For anybody who doesn't remember or needs reminding:

John Barnes

Anybody have a favorite Barnes memory they wish to share?

Im a little bit too young to remember (Especially before the age of sky) but I do remember a couple of things. We bought him from Watford for £900,000 and Beardsley the same year for 1.3mill. Digger started the better of the two. He lit up the league with some sublime play. Beardo was a late bloomer and eventually had an excellent season. Thats's my memories of the first season anyway.

During the late eighties he was one of the best players in the world.

Beardsley was actually 1.9m, our record transfer at the time.

Barnes was a magical player and anything seemed possible when he was on the field. I feel priveleged to have watched him play at the peak of his powers. Absolutely magnificent.
