He was indeed the boss of anti-football.

The barca away games was his best game and I don't think he had the ball once.

Awful to see LFC play like that though.

"Awful" to see us beat Barca at the Nou Camp and stick two goals on them in the process?

Besides, successful teams have often included at least one yard dog and Momo was among the best. Incidentally I don't even agree that that was his best game - if I'd been awarding MOTM for the 96 Cup Final he'd have got it.

I know he's African like Jules but even he wasn't old enough to play in the 96 cup final.

Hahaha. Touché man. Now I'm really feeling old. 😀

Basic point stands though. Momo doesn't get the respect on here that his best performances deserved, IMHO of course.

It seems he gets a ton more respect on here now than when he was actually in our shirt though.

Everyone European commentator seems to think we've made an incredible signing in Matip (who seems generally rated at 15-25m).

That's a great start to our summer overhaul.

Shame we haven't won a trophy on his best performances

Generally because we've been too shit to get to a final with him as a regular starter

Seems incredible that this is a debate. Almost as incredible as the fact that Lucas has survived nearly a decade as a Liverpool player - although the answer to that is linked to the reason why within the period, he has rarely been a regular starter or first choice, because players like Gerrard, Mascherano, Alonso, Henderson have always been better, so played ahead of him. Even The likes of Can and Sissoko are preferred, and now he's once more well down the pecking order, and plays due to injury or an emergency CB.

And when Lucas does get a sustained run in the team, there's in,y one outcome: we win nothing and finish around 7th or 8th. Because, unlike Traore, if Lucas plays a lot, you now that the available quality and options are dire.

Traoré must have been some player then, I mean he lead us to the CL final.
Nope. He played in a final. There's a difference. Sissoko was part of a song about the best midfield in the world

Lucas has a song which few people know. Generally because it's rarely worthy of being sung

I've heard it once or twice. Is there are worse player than Lucas to have lasted so long at Liverpool? I mean, I know we have to factor in the amount of times he's been available and nobody has ever wanted to buy him, and there's also the Faustian luck he's had with a series of injuries to other players and manager changes that have extended his Anfield career to absurd lengths, but is he the worst player to last 10 years at Anfield? I can't see any genuine competition

I'm sure there are, but I can't think of them

Apart from when he hit the bar with an effort from 25 yards out.

Sissoko left for Juventus for 11 million.
We tried to flog Lucas in the summer for 4 million and had one offer from Besiktas.
Says it all really.

More appearances than Jan Molby, Rob Jones, Sammy Lee, Craig Johnson, John Toshack, Didi, Finnan, Agger, McMahon...

58th on the all time Liverpool appearance record

And apparently, only one good performance.

He's actually played more games than Jihn Toshack, Jan Molby, Didi Haman and Steve McMahon. That's enough to make you cry. Although when anyone wonders why we don't win much anymore, it's a pretty good place to start: poor to mediocre players have played too many games.

He's a likeable lad and when he's been at his best he's been a good asset to the team. He's divisive for a reason though, alot of the time he's bang average and he makes daft mistakes that he seems incapable of cutting out of his game. He wears his heart on his sleeve though and is one of the few players in recent years who actually looks like he cares about the result, but yeah.. we've been fairly mediocre with him as an ever present.

Yeah. Pulled the wool over the eyes of Rafa, Roy (I could believe that one), Kenny, Mr Rodgers and Jurgen for a decade.

He was only ever 'sort of' a regular under Kenny and Roy, who were sacked very quickly. Rodgers tried to sell him several times and neither he nor Klopp considered him a regular starter after the initial 'he's a good lad' period finished.

He's only still here because we've never actually bothered buying a proper DM since Masher left, and when things go wobbly for a manager, a DM is the first player brought into the team. But even now, with Can, Henderson, Milner, and possibly even Allen ahead of him, it's becoming less likely that he plays. Which is great.

I dont think hes that bad a player at all, pretty standard for a DM.
And he isnt the reason we finish 7th reaaaally, selling Torres, Suarez, Mascherano, Reina, Sterling, Alonso, Riise, Kuyt etc and replacing them with shite is the reason we finish 7th and are barely even also rans now.

That list makes your heart cry doesnt it?

From being the team who cherry picked the best players in the league to a selling club in midtable.

American shysters.

When we had Torres, Sterling, Suarez, Masher, Alonso and Reina were playing in our really quality teams, Lucas wasn't in the Starting XI.

He first had a regular position when Alonso left at the end of the season when we came runners up. I think someone, actually me, said that despite the almost excellent season we had had, if we started the next season with Masher and Lucas as the CM pairing, we would t even finish Top 4. We didn't. Benitez was sacked.

That was the start of the Lucas influence when we didn't have enough quality to minimise it.

That's rubbish Mamma, it was 2 good performances, as everyone knows, against Chelsea and City.

With regards what other poor player lasted so long in the first team squad.......we had 8 seasons of the totally inept Stig Inge Bjornebye
