Liverpool have made Swansea City's emergent midfielder Joe Allen one of their targets for this summer having been impressed with his rise to prominence this season.

The Wales international, 21, who caught the eye again in Sunday's 3-2 win for Swansea against Arsenal, has been scouted by Liverpool since an impressive performance at Anfield in his club's 0-0 draw there in September. He signed a contract at the start of this season that ties him to Swansea, with whom he has been since the age of nine, until 2015.

A move for Allen looks unlikely this month, especially with Liverpool's priority being a striker, and Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers having discouraged any interest in his players. Nathan Dyer is another who is attracting attention, with Tottenham Hotspur taking a close look at the winger.

Allen fits the model of young player that Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli wants to sign – one who can be bought relatively inexpensively and whose value is likely to rise rather than decrease throughout the course of his contract.

Kenny Dalglish said yesterday that the performance against Stoke was not pretty to watch: "We had plenty of possession but there was nothing to finish it," the Liverpool manager said. "We lacked creativity. It wasn't a great spectacle."

quite a bit of competition for the position.

Didn't realise he was only 21. I've noticed him a few times, he's a good player, but there's no chance we decided to scout him after one good performance at Anfield.
Can't see this one materialising.

Lol, clearly you haven't noticed some of our transfer dealings

Hmm.....possibility of purchasing a midfielder who is probably the best player in a shit team. Sound familiar?

He's young though, more of a chance of improving than Adam.

We need to sign a winger though, i'd prefer Sinclair?Dyer if we're gonna sign anyone from swansea.

Waheyyyyy.

He's an attacking midfielder - not a centre mid, and I want him. Therefore, everyone should.

Haven't seen that much of him, but he played very well against us. He has excellent control whilst running at pace and left us falling on our arses a few times.

Agree Squiggles.
What I like about him is his ability to always pick the right pass at the right time.
Better than Adam already and still improving quickly.

He's a different player from Adam, so it's an unfair comparison. That said, he's better than him, so what the fuck.

Watch how good he is on the ball. Thems the types of players I want.

Loathe though I am to agree with Ryan he does look like a smashing prospect.

Having said that there has to come a point where we stop buying squad players with potential for the future and actually buy players to help us succeed now

Don't be loathe to agree with me Count. It'll make you a better person.

I fear that someone of my standing agreeing with you will simply copper fasten your inflated opinion of your self. 😉

Could he be as good as Aaron Ramsey?
[/quote]

I'd almost be prepared to suggest he's already the better of the two.

he's one of them players who always has time on the ball and nearly always picks the right pass. Kind of like Xabi without the range of passes. Don't think he'll be involved in many goals but he's capable of keeping the team ticking over. I'd take him definitely, didn't realise he was only 21.

Ramsey's good.

I sued to think he was a bit meh, but he's come on significantly this season given the absence of Fabregas and Wilshere. They're slightly different in that Ramsey's got a bit more centre mid'ness about him, a bit more drive and agression, but Allen's not that type. As Pesam said he's pure tippytap, plays in the hole, likes to play around defenders/midfielders, trusts his touch as much as anyone I've seen. He can pick a pass, he plays it short all the fucking time, none of this pure Hollywood gash of whinging it 50 yards across the pitch to no benefit, and never gives it away.

He is in fact too good for us.

I'm serious guys, watch this kid play and tell me you don't enjoy it. He's cash money.
