Liverpool are considering a move for Marseille winger Hatem Ben Arfa as Roy Hodgson looks to secure some last minute additions to his squad before the Premier League season kicks off.

The speedy intelligent attacker has been linked with a loan move to Newcastle United in recent weeks but the Anfield boss is hoping to lure the 23 year old to Merseyside on a permanent deal.

The adaptable French international is rumoured to be surplus to requirements at the Stade Velodrome and Didier Deschamps is openly looking to offload the player either on a loan deal to help cut their wage bill in order to fund new additions or if possible on a permanent deal away from the Ligue 1 champions.

Roy Hodgson is looking for more creative attacking options ahead of the new season and is known to be an admirer of the former Lyon man and may well be lining up a significant bid for the £12m rated Clairefontaine graduate.

The skilful youngster is a great attacking weapon where his speed and trickery help to create a wealth of goals as well as being able to score crucial goals from midfield. Hatem just missed out on the French World Cup squad and is looking for a move that can help force himself into Laurent Blanc's thinking. He did manage to get himself into the upcoming squad but that is more to do with the fact that the World Cup squad have been suspended than any change in thinking in the FFF.

Hodgson may well feel that Ben Arfa would be more interested in moving permanently to the Premier League instead of accepting a loan deal at St James' Park and if the Merseyside club can find the funds for such a bid it may well prove a successful one.

Yes Im afraid its been a long established fact, that he is included in a long list of players who are not good enough for Liverpool.

when we are on the verge of signing poulsen, I think 'a long list of players who are not good enough for Liverpool' is a relative term at this moment in time.

I cant believe we would be interested in paying over 10m quid for a player who plays in the same position as Babel and Jovanovic. In a position that Pacheco and Cole can also play in.
When the cheaper alternative would be an english version in SWP.
Its a stupid link.

What next Reina to Arsenal?

Elia looks so much better these days.

He does.

Is Ben Arfa actually any good beyond football manager?

He's meant to be a bit of a trouble maker too isn't he?

You might want to hold that jizz in JimmyK!

Ben Arfa is a prick, and that's going easy on the lad.

He told the President of Marseille to fuck off, and told Deschamps to go suck his cock - because Marseille do not wish to sell him to Newcastle.

Olympique de Marseille winger Hatem Ben Arfa is reportedly ready to quit football if the club don’t grant him the chance to move to Newcastle United, a report in L'Equipe suggests.

OM president Jean-Claude Dassier announced on Thursday evening that Ben Arfa’s future lies at Stade Velodrome, but after receiving little game-time under Didier Deschamps last season, the France international would seem to have other plans.

The Magpies have reportedly made their interest in the player known to les Phoceens’ board. It is said that they offered to take the 23-year-old on a loan basis with an option to buy at the end of the season, though Dassier is said to have dismissed this offer as unacceptable.

Ben Arfa would appear to have his heart set on a move, and is ready to gamble his own career on the switch.

"I shall never return here," he is rumoured to have said when leaving Marseille's training ground on Thursday.

The Parisian-born player has taken such a risk before. In order to push through his move from Olympique Lyonnais to OM, he simply walked out of Lyon’s pre-season training and began working with Marseille instead, having not had consent from his previous club.

The funny thing is that Lizarazu just hammered him on French tv, he said "Quit football and do what? Wait in the unemployment line? He doesn't have any intelligence".

Can't see him ever playing for them again, I wonder what happens next. Blanc better not select him for France again!

This was the good thing about Domenech, he said Nasri, Ben Arfa and Benzema are scum and wouldn't pick them, at least he took a stand. Of course the mistake was that he took Ribery and Anelka.
