Jesus...Suso....

i saw the game on LFC tv last night, and they were all so, so impressive. there are a good 10-15 really top prospects at the cub now, so hopefully around 4-5 will be first-team quality in 3 or 4 years' time. suso, sterling, kelly, wilson and coady all look good bets, as do the 2 fullbacks, flanagan and robinson.

exciting times.

Owen was slight but didn't play on the wing?

Ah, the wing, where the weak and small get gobbled up, and yet can flourish when playing as a central striker like Owen did.

Central striker, where the diminutive player can hide away, unlike the glaring, harsh bearpit of the dreaded wing, where only the brave, strong or foolish can thrive.

The wing. That graveyard of the meek. How many times have we seen a young, weedy naif - like say, Steve McMananman - shrivel up and expire, only for everyone to say 'He should have been allowed to settle in while playing as a striker! Like Michael Owen!'

But they do not listen, spider. They do not listen.

Exciting times indeed

Yeah, I'm not quite sure what the point about the wing was.

Anyway, I always thought he looks better through the middle. I've had enough of slow wingers.

Wow he looks to have a real touch of class. I wonder if he will develop to play deeper like Alonso or if he is more of an in the hole type?
he's a winger.
No he's not a traditional winger. Most of the games I've seen him he has had a free AM role, sometimes dropping deep to play Alonsoesque passes, and sometimes playing behind the striker. He's a playmaker who could play a wide variety of positions IMO.

I was about to say, based on the videos i'd seen, he was very central and he doesn't seem to ever be near the wings. I think he'd be a fantastic AM or in a driving the attacks from deep, like gerrard. He may not have the power, but he has the pace and passing range

HA!
I'm trying my best to coax a positive post out of him. A golden young player might just be the ticket

He's a footballer. Besides, many players end up playing in positions different from those they occupy at youth level. Carra was a striker to begin with, amazing though it seems now.

You're partially right. But I read an interview with a youth coach he had at Cadiz and he described him as a left winger.
He played on the right in Palace game however.
I think he has what it takes to play in the middle or behind the striker as well.

We've had more slow fucking wide players than any team in history.

Oh, you get the odd bellend quacking on about pace being overrated, but the thing about that statement is, is that it's *wrong*.

Slow, wide players. On both flanks. And yet that's what we keep buying:

Cole, Zenden, Tennants, Riera, Maxi, Kuyt, Aurelio, Nunez.

The team needs far more pace injected into it, in all positions, especially in attack and midfield.

Was Pennant that slow though Brendan? You forgot Yossi, who was no speed demon either.

Suso looks promising - but I'm scared to get too excited. I'm not over the LT pain.

Pennant was the slowest player with "pace" in history.

Suso could be very very good, but I think it needs to be in the middle/hole whatever. Not stuck out wide.

Harsh on Kuyt, Aurelio and Pennant. Pennant had a bit of pace but was just to thick to know when to do it. Aurelio was (and is) a left back primarily. Kuyt is a striker and is being played out of position as he likes to run about and cover glenjo. The rest...fair enough.
Pace is essential in a winger, but it's not the be all and end all. Figo was hugely successful and didn't have plenty of pace. Giggs is still a dangerous winger and has no pace. Obviously however pace is essential in players who have deficiencies in other areas. Like nearly all of our recent wingers have

His got great vision and passing, and I agree he should play in the middle. But considering his age and size I think he should be introduced to first team football as a winger and gradually move inwards.

Would you call David Silva a winger? He looks like he'll be one of those who will play across the '3'.

It'd be nice to see him get a bit of Carling Cup action and next season I imagine we'll see him feature pretty early on in preseason, however it'd be wrong to thrust him into the first team. Particularly when the first team are struggling as they are.

I've watched some pretty average players look fantastic in the Youth Cup and then disappear into obscurity when it comes to taking a step up. Suso has already shown he can do it in the reserves and he's obviously has great natural talent, unlike the aforementioned average players, but first team is too much too soon for me.

ha ha good one, bren. blast you! ;D
it's true owen was first introudced he was going up against defenders twice his size. will our coaching staff want to risk it with suso? who knows.

i think it's redundant getting him to get used to a position in such a harsh environment to then only move him. I think drop him in AM in cup games, then upgrade to the league

I wouldn't say that Giggs doesn't have pace today. He isn't Walcott but he was fast enough to give Kelly a hard but manageable time.

Yeah, I guess wide in a 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 is different to a 4-4-2.

He certainly shouldn't be used wide in a 4-4-2, although the other formations wouldn't be the end of the world.

totally agree with this, some people go on like pace is irrelevent when over the years we have come up against some pacey players who are no more than average (ability wise) but have taken us to the fucking cleaners.

Fabregas
Rooney
C. Ronaldo
Van der Vaart
Robben
Pato

All playing for the first team in their early teens. He should be in the first team now so he can flourish. It's blatantly obvious to everyone that he looks the real deal.

Suso for the first team ? haha

He's an immense talent but let's not get too carried away. He'll be gobbled up alive against more formidable shithouse opponents. Premier league games are played at a much frenetic pace and he won't be given as much time as he'd like on the ball.

He's not ready for the first team yet, but we should be looking at easing him into the squad now.

Haven't seen a player outplay opposition players with such ease and so frequently as Suso.
He's an immense talent and the sooner he gets introduced to first team football the better.

I'm not saying that he should start games but he can at least be on the bench.

I've heard that so many times before.

Richie Partridge
Flo-Po
Tony Le T
Adam Hamill
Pacheco (biggest disappointment - as I really thought he'd make the step-up and become a world-class star. I really did)
Nemeth

After all the false dawns we've had, I think it's wise to tread cautiously from now onwards.
