If the players are going to play full throttle its obvious we need to recall half a dozen players if tge contracts allow it. We desperately need a defensive midfielder or a deep lying playmaker. The problem is deep lying midfielders don't come cheap. I hate ro say it but we need a another striker as both benteke and sturridge are susceptible to injuries the only alternative we have is origi. Austin will be available and cheap.

The best we can hope for is that Klopp knows really promising young players in Germany who can come in for a low price and surprise this league. We need a back up striker (not a 'he can play in several positions' type - an out and out striker who scores goals on a regular basis and stays fit), a wide player who can cross the ball to someone other than the opposition keeper, and maybe a Mascher-style tenacious defensive midfielder.

I'm not sure the answer is another striker with injury concerns.

I still think it's too early for Klopp to be think about signings.

We're in a ridiculously bad run of injuries and Klopp has barely had time to figure out who he feels is worth keeping. I think the worst thing we could so is go and buy short term solutions in an effort to get fourth this season.

I'd prefer to recall some loanees and see if a couple can surprise us

That's why I think a DM is the first priority. There's no alternative to Lucas.

At CM/AM we have more than couple of options which should work.

At striker we have sturridge with the injury question, & Benteke who needs a long run to judge.

At CB we have issues, but arguably we should have the personnel to find at least a short term solution.

The only position I'd be looking at after DM would be the keeper.
Mignolet's distribution is a big issue & isn't improving.

A goalkeeper, central defender, defensive midfielder and a winger.

Whats needed in January and what can wait until the summer will obviously be up to Klopp and whose available.
I'd rather wait until the summer if we cant get Klopps preffered targets in January.

A winger is probably very high up on the list. As Carra said earlier the squad is horribly loopsided.
Shame we cant recall Markovic.

I'm not sure a keeper is something we'll look to try and bring in during January, it's a big position to implement. A centre half because our cover is less than adequate with Gomez being out, Toure is past it and Lovren is, well..

A central midfielder is key, maybe not even a DM but just a player who will dictate things, then maybe a goalscoring attacker/winger.

January is notoriously difficult for bringing in quality though, although we have had our moments with Arbeloa, Skrtel, Coutinho and Sturridge.

Are we sure Ilori isn't good enough?

If we are then I'd agree with signing another centre back.

Playing a high tempo and high intensity game requires incredible degree of fitness and endurance. I just don't we have the personal to last a whole season, so we need a big squad that players can be rotated. I honestly think both Milner and Clyne are beginning to suffer from fatigue and could do with a rest.

I don't know. People seem to think he is judging him by his (few?) reserve outings and International games, but he's another perma-crock and he's barely had a kick for a shit Villa side.

A DM.

Otherwise I think we are ok in the short-term.

More long term I want a new GK, CB for Skrtel, a LB, and also a wide-player unless Ibe can sort himself out.
A striker is dependent on Sturridge. If this goes on, yes, a striker too.

January is the same as the last unmpteen windows. We need better players, starting with a keeper, a CB, a DM and a winger, maybe even a striker. It's been the same forever.

And Suarez

I think the time is well past that we should be looking to make wholesale changes in transfer windows, so maybe two players in January - a DM and a Wide Forward - and then 3 more in the summer.

Why is he not getting games for Villa? Is he injured or not considered good enough?

Sherwood said at the start of this month that he was still some way from reaching full fitness due to an incomplete pre-season. Which sounds a bit dubious to me.

We don't need a keeper in Jan. We might as well plough on til the summer with Mingolet and try get one of the up and coming German keepers to start as #1 next season. Mingolet might also look a lot more solid with an organised defense in front of him. I'd allow him see it out til the summer anyway.

If we're going to make a change I think I'd be happier getting a new keeper in sooner rather than later. I agree it isn't top priority though.

Goalkeeper; CB; central midfielder (DM); attacking player with pace who is versatile enough to play wide or more centrally; striker.

We need a DM as an absolute top priority. Everything else comes next.

I do think that following that a top quality keeper would make a huge difference though.

I could see Klopp going for an offensive midfielder too if Coutinho continues to play like he does at the moment.

I think that someone like Hakan Calhanoglu from Bayer Leverkusen could fit in well - Klopp is an admirer of his and he's a brilliant set piece taker too. And we do need one.

I think we need some boss footie players who keep smacking the ball into the oppo's net and then running away to perform some cringeworthy celebration worked out on the training ground (during the periods they're not hard at work obv.) whilst Jurgen does his acrobatics in front of the dugout thing.
