Jamie Carragher's LFC Dream Team

That would pretty much be mine. Although given that Barnes was on the wane by Jamies time I'd take him out for Nando.

Also, Carra would obviously be in there ahead of Henchoz if anyone else was picking the team.

With all due respect to Didi, Xabi was a better player.

Nah. And that's no criticism on Xabi. Simply Did was marvellous.

And Didi's got to start! Swap him for Xabi I guess.
[/quote]

no he hasn't - xabi and stevie are better.

You fellas aren't comparing like with like IMHO. The three of them are different players and each can do a specific job better than the others. Stevie and Xabi have more eye-catching skills than the Kaiser, but they were both on the field in the first half in Istanbul and we all know who came on to turn the game after half-time. In fact there's a very respectable argument for saying it should actually be Didi and A.N.Other in centre mid (out of this "squad" my choice would be Stevie).

Hamann and Gerrard was a better CM pairing than Xabi and Gerrard - I don't see how anyone could argue otherwise.

Xabi was class, and made us tick, but usually only when he had a rottweiler like Mascher beside him.

Spot on. I always thought Gerrard and Alonso in a midfield two was terrible tbh.

Carra obviously thinks otherwise! And I agree with him - a more restrained and balanced stevie g in cm would make that combination better than didi and gerrard.

didi is one of the best holding midfielders I have seen but I would have alonso ahead as I think xabi is a better player.

I definately have babbel over finnan and torres over owen, I'd also have carra (of two years ago) over handchoz.

Except that it didn't happen while Xabi was here.

Besides, Carra's picking the best eleven individuals, not necessarily the best combo. If you asked him to say which eleven he'd have sent out to actually play a game together, I'll bet a sizeable sum he'd have Didi in there.

not sure about that; I think to omit xabi would be too much.

The depressing thing about that team - including subs - is that its so easy to pick.

Apart from Carra himself those are pretty much the only good players we've had in 15 years.

That didn't occur to me looking at the list, but you're right. Depressing indeed.

So what would you say are the glaring ommissions from that list? Given that we are talking about players from around 1997 to the present day?

I disagree. I loved going away to Goodison Park with them 2 in the middle and smashing them. I don't think Everton had a shot that day. We lined up:

-------Torres-Keane
Riera-Alonso-Gerrard-Kuyt

Great performance, dominated from start to finish.

So did I but if you were asked to pick 11 players and 6 subs from that period is it likely you would consider him?

We did have players during that time who were alright or had periods of being quite good but the ones that Carra chose there are quite obviously the stand out players. It can't have been an agonising choice
