Is it just me that suspects @Red Astaire isn't on holiday at all but has actually been kicked out by his missus and is sitting in a grotty bedsit that stinks of stale piss with only gallons of cheap cider for company?

Ha! I'll post up a pic on six crazy minutest FB to prove it. And you all get to see how handsome I am!

I bet these photos have been passed through the same editing software as the photos of our mate Graham that are doing the rounds.

Whads back?

Where have you been hiding over the past 12 glorious months of football?

[article=http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11669/9875239/james-milner-should-be-given-a-central-role-at-liverpool-says-phil-thompson?]“I love his attitude, I love his ability, and I think it is a terrific signing for Liverpool,” Thommo told Sky Sports.

He’s got to play in central midfield as much as he can. I was watching Sky Sports News HQ after the news broke and I think I saw he had seven assists last season, whereas Steven Gerrard only had one assist from more games.

“He’d also created 52 chances – that’s exactly what Liverpool want.

“I think this deal could have been pretty much done a long time ago, with him being free to speak to clubs from January. It looks as though we’ve beaten Arsenal to his signature and that’s a massive positive for the club.

“He lives up in this area and is happy in this part of the country – he’s a Leeds lad – so I think everything was spot on for both parties.”

Fellow Liverpool legend and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher claims Milner “could be competing for the captain’s armband” with Steven Gerrard leaving the club, although Thommo believes Jordan Henderson has done enough to warrant the role.

He said: “I think it would be difficult for him to come in and be handed the armband straight away. Jordan Henderson has done very well when he’s been captain.

“Jordan is a lot younger and can be captain for a long time, so I think taking that from him would be a step backwards for him personally.

“Milner has captaincy ability in him, of course, but I just think it would be the wrong move from the club because it would be unfair to put a burden on him like that.”[/article]

TalkSport have just said he's taking a pay cut to move to LFC.

Daily Mail:

I'm surprised his glass is even half empty for long. Slurp!
Heh. He does like a drink. He's a regular in the Mount Vernon, or was when I lived round there.

Nice bloke whenever I spoke to him, I've got his book (which he signed for me) & it's a good read. A lot of his articles are just shit now though.

James Milner sought assurances Brendan Rodgers would stay at Liverpool before agreeing to join

Had Liverpool opted to make a managerial change following their end-of-season review, England midfielder would have reconsidered his options

By Chris Bascombe

James Milner sought assurances that Brendan Rodgers would be retained as Liverpool manager prior to agreeing a deal at Anfield.

The England midfielder’s arrival on Merseyside was confirmed, pending a medical, in a club statement on Thursday. The 29-year-old has given up a supporting role at Manchester City to become one of Rodgers’ chief lieutenants at Liverpool.

There is no doubt that Rodgers’ influence was central to convincing Milner to move from City, where the player had become frustrated at the rotation policy in a star-studded squad. He was too often left out but knows he will be central to Rodgers’ reshaping of his side next season.

As with Danny Ings, whose signing is also expected to be confirmed in a matter of days, Milner was keen to work with Rodgers, who retains the faith of Liverpool’s ownership group despite a poor season.

Had Liverpool opted to make a managerial change following their end-of-season review, Milner would have reconsidered his options.

Rodgers will be buoyed by the decision of the versatile midfielder to quit the club where he won two Premier League titles. He has been earmarked for a central role at the start of next season. With Steven Gerrard leaving this summer, the manager knew he had to act to recruit a senior professional who would command respect on and off the pitch at Anfield.

Rodgers often looked around his dressing this season and saw a group of talented but raw young players desperately in need of guidance from those more experienced. With the exception of Gerrard, it is debatable exactly how positive the influence of the older heads has been.

Indeed, in some cases, there is a feeling that those out of the Liverpool team have had a negative impact on the younger elements.

Rodgers is desperate to streamline his squad in the coming months and wants to ensure that those who have refused moves in the past do not pollute the atmosphere with their presence when the players reconvene in pre-season.

Milner will enthuse the Liverpool manager as someone whose professionalism will be the envy of most managers, not least Manuel Pellegrini who was desperate to keep him.

City offered Milner £160,000 a week to sign a new deal and he featured regularly last season in an effort to keep him. Milner had already decided he wanted to move to a club where he would be guaranteed his place – form permitting – rather than facing uncertainty about his role from one week to the next.

Earlier this week Jamie Carragher suggested Milner should be considered for the Liverpool captaincy.

That Rodgers has delayed announcing who will take the armband would suggest he wants to see how his squad evolves – it could look very different in August – before taking that decision.

Even if Milner does not earn that rapid promotion, he will join Liverpool’s dressing room as a leader – a player who has won titles and who commands respect.

Paul Ince was handed the captaincy when he arrived .... I just hope this one works out a little better.

... it will, my glass is 95% full

If there is a guarantee of anything in football I'd say the prospect of Milner performing right from the off is as near as you'll get. Consistency is what he has and is definitely what our club needs.

Take a look at @FootballFunnys's Tweet:

I'm now against this signing

Nothing on that site has ever been funny.
Nothing I hate more than twitter accounts that do nothing but put shit stuff up about football 24\7.
They need to get a ride for themselves or something.
In your opinion..

Like I said. I DON'T FOLLOW THEM.. I JUST DECIDED TO POST SOMETHING THAT WAS A LITTLE FUNNY...

By the way - an interesting distinction there between mancs and scousers. Hand grip.

The Scouse grip of the microphone - firm, sensible, functional, manly:

The Mancunian grip of the microphone - limp, effete, pervy, lady-like:

That's all you need to know about the two cultures.

[article=http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/revealed-khaldoons-last-ditch-attempt-9397090#rlabs=2]Khaldoon Al Mubarak staged a last ditch attempt to keep James Milner at Manchester City.

The club’s chairman held face-to-face talks with the England midfielder following the final game of the season against Southampton.

City were desperate to keep hold of Milner - offering him a deal worth £165,000-a-week to stay at the Etihad.

But the out-of-contract 29-year-old rejected the offer and this week agreed a deal to join Liverpool.

It is understood Milner’s decision was driven by his determination to play in his favoured central midfield role - something City could not guarantee him in a summer when they hope to land Paul Pogba.

Khaldoon’s intervention is a measure of how much the club’s Abu Dhabi owners valued Milner.

He held similar talks with Yaya Toure - as exclusively revealed by MEN Sport - where he told the Ivorian City had no intention of selling him this summer.

But, as a free agent, Milner was a different case and had the right to choose his next destination.

Arsenal were also interested in him - but a move to Liverpool meant not having to uproot to London.

City looked like they were facing a losing battle to keep hold of the versatile player as contract negotiations dragged on for much of the season.

Manuel Pellegrini had made it clear that saw Milner as pivotal to his plans next season - but the Chilean’s failure to guarantee more opportunities centrally ultimately prompted him to join Liverpool.[/article]

I'm buoyant about this signing. I've liked him since his Newcastle days when we were linked. He's gotten a lot better since then. If we had had him in 13/14 we would have won the league. How do people not like him? He's worth every penny. He's got tricks, balance, passing range and touch, crossing, intelligence, he grafts and is Argentinean. I present the evidence:

Milner, Ings and recalling Origi make a great start to the summer. We've added what should be another 20 goals to the team. We need one great strike coming in now, Tevez would be ideal. A DM, promote Connor Randall, get Flanno back, buy a RB/LB combo player and a CB if Skrtel goes after that. Lots to do but I am very very happy with Milner.
