"It's complicated"? -- No it isn't, fuck off Barca - £113 Million bid rejected

Why would he leave Spurs?

Maybe if he felt Levy's priority was paying the stadium debt rather than maintaining the progress of the team, which is likely to be the case, and one or two players get sold. At which point we'd probably be in the reckoning to sign him as he's an LFC fan and would be attracted by a move to us or else abroad.

But he's hardly a like for like swap for Coutinho, and we really need to resist Barcelona this time around.

We didn't have a shite manager then dreamy, don't be daft

Isn't he saying we didn't have a shite manager when we sold Owen? ie Benitez isn't shite?

And Rodgers was "a chancer"?

Or is that what everyone is angry about?

I don't actually know what point he's trying to make though. That it doesn't matter if our manager is great or shite, players leave anyway?

Good - looks like we ain't budging unless Coutinho forces this.

That shouldn't matter either. If Southampton and Leipzig refused to sell despite their players throwing fits, we'd be even more the mugs if we were to sell because Coutinho said he wanted to go.

Fuck all that. He stays the season. End of. I'm sure we'll be dealing with this every summer until we either win something or he goes but we don't have to sell.

We ought to be more like Leipzig in resolution than Southampton which is just a selling club. I'm willing to bet one of the lures to top players (as I'm sure that's what van Dijk was promised) is there being a stepping stone to better things.

We should be able to be more resolute than either. But who is more likely to be in Champions League in 2018-19 - us or Leipzig. Unless we strengthen in the next month, they'd have to have the inside track. And success there probably leads to Bayern and a shot at trophies.

Rodgers was shite in my opinion, there were other factors of course but I don't think he was anywhere near as good as he believed and is definitely miles behind Klopp.

Yes, as per usual I didn't phrase it very well.

I was saying in my opinion that

When Owen left we had a great manager (Rafa)

When Suarez left we had a shite manager/chancer in charge (Rodgers)

If Coutinho goes we still have a great manager (Klopp)

Looks like Barca decided to make a U turn with Neymar. Wonder if it's because we won't release Coutinho?

But he has a release clause I thought?
192m Euro I thought. If PSG pay it then Barca supposedly can't refuse. However I saw this covered elsewhere recently and there are still legal avenues the selling club can use to prevent a deal. It's a standard clause and the way the Spanish contracts are worded is the issue.

I'm sure I remember reading during the Herrera debacle that it was different for domestic and foreign clubs, something about a tax bill?

That's not true anymore. A club can refuse to transfer a player if the buy-out clause is met as the contract is with the player and it would require the player to pay the clause. Up until last year that meant the player would need to get the fee back from the buying club AND the 48% tax on the income which made buyout clauses even more ridiculous. Now the additional tax is no longer required by the Spanish government.

There's a story all over Talksh!te this morning that La Liga are holding things up. It seems that under Spanish football regulations the transfer fee would have to be paid to La Liga in the first place and they're refusing to accept payment. Dunno if there's any truth in this, but that's the scuttlebutt FWIW.

Surely Coutinho would want to join Barca to play with his mate Neymar? If he is going then that must have some influence on his decision to stay / want to go

The fall out and chain reaction from this deal is going to be fascinating!

The transfer window might get crazy busy before it 'slams' shut.
