Is it any wonder we call them Scum

Fans of LFC contributed to the deaths of innocent fans at Heysel, that can never be taken back or reversed it is a genuine shame on our club, the shirt is completely tasteless but not because it aims offence at us, we don' have a leg to stand on re Heysel.

It is tasteless because it cheapens the lives of the innocent Italian and Belgian dead by using them as a commodity in a football rivalry.

I remember being 18 standing singing the munich song on the Kop for a laff.... i thought it was funny i really did..... i thought it was fucking hilarious in fact, part of me still does. The part which is wrong. I'd like t think that if i had of been at the meeting of the hopeless SoS whoppers I would not have joined in the chant... but I aint sure...

Since the standing kop days Sky has exploded and magnified everything so the media coverage was such that i got pretty sick of hearing about the Busby babes and how they would still be fucking winning leagues now if they were alive, watching Charlton crying in the 18 hour long sky tribute last year made me puke really.

Thats the kind of feeling i have about mancs...

An old man crying about his dead friends and im so twisted by rivalry I was sneering on the inside.

Imagine being on a plane with your footy team waking up with burns and your foot facing the wrong way and lots of mates dead.

And there I am sneering pint in hand at the poor ol bastard, a dignified man in his 70s crying about mates of his who never got the chance to live there lives, sneering at him just because he's a manc. Nothing to do with Football everything to do with life. I'm glad i managed to hold my stupid fucking tongue and avoid embarrassing myself. RIP Busby babes.

Im not 18 anymore, unlike that manc youth with the 96 not enough shirt, and i'm a bit wiser now and i know that all of what ive just admitted to here makes me just as much of a cunt as any manc with a dodgy insulting shirt.

The ONLY way to stop this fucking bollocks is not to tolerate it amongst ourselves. If we want respect, which is what the victims of Hillsborough deserve at the very least seeing as we cant get them justice, if we want respect then we have first to show it to others. That include the Mancs.

All of the lives at Munich, Heysel, Hillsborough, Bradford, Ibrox etc etc ALL of them should be respected, terrace humour/banter/rivalry is one thing blatant nastyness scumminess is another. The openess of the Hillsborough wound is plane to see, compounded by many things from the police silence to the press lies to the self pity city snide attacks Liverpool gets levelled at it.

Thats not to say that at times I feel people get into a frenzy of being "offended" which just isn't helpful and raises things to levels which don't help and just seem petty at times, it annoys me as much as the lack of respect in fact. I have no right to be offended by hillsborough chants/digs, i was lucky i never lost anyone. I just wish they would stop for the sake of the families and friends who did lose loved ones. One thing i do know is that by calling people scum etc etc.... that will not help it will just perpetuate it.

If you get round to calling people scum then you have already lost becaue you've missed the point.

*stands and applauds*

We call them Scum because they're either playing for or supporting 'that' team.

The rivalry between the clubs has become much more sinister over the yearss, and thats not going to change.

What can be done however, is to nip the excessive nonsense in the bud.

I agree with most of what Molby says. However the first paragraph appears to suggest that the offending shirt was Heysel related.

It wasnt. It was Hillsborough related. Im sorry guys but in my opinion anyone who sullies the memory of the 96, or does anything to offend their families, is scum.

As I say, its just my opinion and I hold the same opinion towards anyone, from any club, including ours, who insult the dead or the bereaved.

I certainly know that if I had been at the SOS meeting I would not have joined in.

I was responding to the whole thread jack, the topic in general, later in it somebody posted up a link to a shirt which has three stars on it with the tag line "without killing anyone" underneath it.

Don't apologise for being offended about the Hillsborough shirt, it was well out of order, but by the sounds of it the lads made his apology and his big brother has put him straight as well. Any deaths Hillsborough, Heysel, Munich.... they are all tragic and should not be placed above each other in importance, if you do that then you feed into the justification of some snide twats who have sly digs, like that Chelsea commentator in the sticky thread. It's OK to have a dig at Hillsborough because they scousers are so fucking precious about it etc etc.... look how they think a hillsborough death is sacred compared to all others etc etc...

If we want the nastyness to stop then we should sort ourselves out first and we should moderate how we respond to kids with 96 not enough written on it.... all of us have got the ability to be an arsehole. All of us. Every single last one of us.

It's counter-productive to point out weaknesses in others when you really want them to show you and your feelings respect, especially when there are a small minority of people to whom common sensibilties and respect are so lacking that they will spot your offence and revel in it.

Don't give them the satisfaction.

I applaud the statement of the brother who clearly has his head screwed on. That should be the end of it i think.

Getting wound up about it and responding with invective and hate will just make things worse I think. If the man U fans knew that we were respectful of things they held dear such as Munich, if they recognised that the rivalry was strong banter and pride but not actual real life hate then there would be less incentive for the idiots to pipe up with their nastyness and bile.

Focussing on the negative will just cause more on both sides.

Many Many Man Utd fans were highly sympathetic after Hillsborough, I would rather they weren't labelled scum just on the back on this kid being silly and trying to act big in front of his mates.

The thing is, there is a scum element of their 'fans' and ours, and always will be.

I know two 'supporters' of their lot, one who I'll pass the time of day to and discuss football matters, and the other one, that told me 'not enough bin dippers died that day at Hillsbrough'. It'll never change, there will always be lowlifes, and it's doesn't matter how nice and polite we are, they'll still be there.

True enough Mors but you know and I know that most of the rivalry stems from the Terrace culture ( sadly gone now in many ways), in which you behave and act as a group, a "uni mind", you sing and shout together etc...

If the vast majority of fans made it clear among their own that it isn't acceptable to use such painful events as ammunition then eventually even your idiots will get round to feeling awkward about coming out with it.

I could be wrong but its the only solution I can envisage tbh.
