Reports suggest Emiliano Insua will join Fiorentina in a £5 million deal which could be wrapped up before the weekend.
Talks between the clubs had taken place before Roy Hodgson's appointment. Earlier this week the Reds boss admitted he had been impressed by the 21-year-old but suggested he may have no say in the transfer.
Now La Viola have met the value Liverpool have placed on the Argentine personal terms remain the only potential stumbling block.
However, few problems are expected.
Maynor Figueroa of Wigan Athletic has been identified as a replacement though should Insua leave the Reds will remain short of personnel in that position following Fabio Aurellio's summer departure.
Aurelio is being courted by a host of clubs and could join Aston Villa on a pay-as-you-play deal.
