no chance. I watched the arsenal and bolton games and I was amazed at home many tackles he won as you just don't notice that sort of stuff when you first watch the game as you are more focused on the attackers (well at least I am). I don't think spearing will ever be as effective as lucas simple because lucas has more mobility and thus covers more ground (spearing's ompa lumpa legs don't exactly lend themselves to speed either).

I don't really think they're comparable in that respect. One is a combative defensive midfielder, while the other is much more of a creator or orchestrator. I'd be very surprised if they were considered for the same role in the team.

In the long term you may be right. I certainly hope you are.

However, Shelvey hasn't even really had those couple of good games yet has he?

he hasn't really had the chance to show his talents from the start though. If given the chance and he starts some games he'll make himself hard to drop. He has so much natural composure and is great at picking passes

Imo Spearing is more limited than Shelvey and the latter has a much higher potential- therefore gets Shelvey my vote.

Spearing has partnered Lucas in a good few games and they were surprisingly good as a partnership. He may get the nod but I wouldn't count Charlie Adam out just yet!
