I am not a fan of Gomez I thing that poeple over rate him.

When they are both fit Klopp played Matip ahead of Gomez at the start of last season, that should tell you something.

We should be look to sign a new quality CB to replace Gomez

But you're wrong about 95% of the time.

So, if Virgil is traiing with the ball, what does that mean in terms of schedule for return? Is this what would be expected or is he ahead of or behind schedule?

I feel like we saw clips of Thiago playing with a ball 5-6 weeks before he returned so not sure it is an indicator of readiness for sharp movements and potential resilience to contact etc.

In context the work that we have seen Virgil doing so far doesnt in any way suggest hes close to a first team return. Hes at the phase of his recovery where hes trying to rebuild strength and stability in the knee and surrounding muscles. Weve yet to see him do any cutting or pivoting routines, any explosive movements like sprinting or jumping. And all of that will be weeks before hes able to take part in full contact training.

Thats entirely normal considering hes less than 3 months post surgery so its not that hes doing badly. His realistic timeline is still probably at least another 12 weeks and that assuming he suffers no setbacks during that period. Given his importance I cant see the club taking any risks with him so Id be surprised if we see him before May.

We may not see him at again at all this season though. Im not sure the club would be all that keen to push him to come back by May only to see him go play in the Euros with Holland while hes still not 100%. That seems like a relapse waiting to happen.

We'll see what the club really thinks if they include him on the list of 25 they must submit to the PL at the end of January

Great. Man United will win it then.

In any case, I reckon De Bruyne won't be out for that long.

Confirmed ligament damage to Matip.

Not investing in a CB now would just be grossly irresponsible from FSG.
