Don't worry Agger is fine.

But Adam isn't.

Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam will miss Scotland's Euro 2012 qualifying match against Lithuania due to a hip injury.

The former Rangers and Blackpool player was forced off after 80 minutes of Saturday's home clash with the Czech Republic because of the problem.

http://www.express.co.uk/football/view/269253/Adam-joins-Scotland-s-injury-list?

Pearce gave Henderson a pass. So he's probably back with the team.

Johnson is on the mend, should be ready for Stoke.
Kelly is still a doubt.

Gerrard will be back in training soon.

Most importantly, one midfielder is missing and there's no Meireles to cover for him.

Meireles is currently injured anyway.

Wonder who is going to take place of Adam is he's unavailable. Henderson?

Come to think of it, yeah it'll probably be Hendo.

Lucas Henderson

Kuyt Downing

Suarez
Carroll

More likely to be Spearing.

Agreed.

And we didn't look bad in the games Spearing played over the last few months. There was a look of urgency to our midfield with him there, winning a lot of balls, which might be useful at a place like Stoke.

I hardly think its a serious injury and Charlie will recover in time. The injury did occur not long before he was subbed against the Czechs and a little physio will have the lad bouncing around in no time. If he doesnt make the Stoke game, Spearing is likely to partner Lucas but with Kenny you just never know. He is full of surprises.

Well if Adam is the passing midfielder in our set up then Shelvey is the more natural replacement for him than Spearing who will probably deputise when Lucas is unavailable. A midfield of Lucas and Spearing would offer very little in terms of passing, Ive yet to see Henderson play centrally so cant comment but I think long term he will move into the middle he

Heh, Lucas and Spearing played in the middle against Fulham when we battered them.

Ha ! Beat me to it. I'd currently choose Spearing over Shelvey any day, his play is far more mature.

If it is a choice between Shelvey and Spearing - and I'm not totally sure it is but we'll see - then I would go for Spearing right now.

He played very well towards the end of last season, whereas I haven't really seen anything that impressive in Shelvey yet to be honest.

if adam is out then we have to decide if we are more concerned with stopping the supply line to crouch or creating more chances for carroll, if you want the former than go with spearing and if you want latter you go with jonjo.

It's not even a case of snuffing out the supply, it's more about not getting out fought in the middle of the park.

When has Shelvey proved that he is any better at this than Spearing anyway?

it amounts to the same thing, if we get dominated in midfield then they will feed their strikers much faster than if we dominate midfield.

^ this. Where did the idea that Shelvey is awesome originate? He has potential, but that is all for now.

It originated the moment his father climaxed inside his mother in the middle of that car park. In their marital bed in their spacious caravan.

The moment his seed fertilised her egg, they had no idea that they were creating the future of football, and the benchmark that all midfielders will be judged against.

I don't really think they're comparable in that respect. One is a combative defensive midfielder, while the other is much more of a creator or orchestrator. I'd be very surprised if they were considered for the same role in the team.

That said, I think Shelvey belongs at this level. Aside from a couple of good games last season, I don't think Spearing does.
Shelvey is nowhere near the level to be playing in a central midfield 2 for us.
Spot on. Spearing will come in if Adam fails to make the Stoke game.
