I hope Allen gets some minutes when back - he had a decent pre-season promising to kick on this year.

Now we're playing 3 at the back, I'd be more inclined to give him some a stab at a deep lying role.

Really, despite being utterly clueless in that position when Lucas was out injured?

Fingers crossed for some good news regarding our young Brazilian wizard as well

Different system.
Nah, I'd still leave that to Lucas and possibly Henderson.
Imo Allen is competing with Gerrard for a place in the team.
If you think about it, even at Swansea Britton did the Lucas job, while Allen had a more attacking role. He likes to get into the box. He'd be wasted in the DM position.

Thing is, this 3-4-1-2 Rodgers favours lends itself to one of the sitting midfielders having more of a licence to break forwards in support of the '1'. A different take on the 'shuttle' player Rodgers has described Allen as in the past (a link man so to speak).

Of course, that might well be complete bollocks given I've got the hangover from hell (anyone else survived a night on Kraken rum?)

From the official site:

One man who won't be making the journey to the north east is Philippe Coutinho.
The Brazilian is still undergoing his recovery from shoulder surgery in September.
"He's working with the physiologists on the field," said Rodgers. "He's looking very good, but still not strong enough yet to join the training group."

Rodgers: Quartet to return at Newcastle
17th Oct 2013 - Latest News

Brendan Rodgers today declared that Liverpool will travel to Newcastle on Saturday bolstered by their 'strongest squad' of the season so far.
The Reds boss expects his selection options to be boosted by the availability of fit-again trio Glen Johnson, Joe Allen and Aly Cissokho.

Rodgers told his pre-match press conference at Melwood: "We'll arrive with our strongest squad of the season against Newcastle.

"They haven't played games, but they've been training now for the last few weeks.

"Glen Johnson will be back. Joe Allen will be back. Cissokho will be back.

"As I said, this will be the strongest available squad we've had this season."

Rodgers' squad is further enhanced by the return of Lucas Leiva following a one-match suspension against Crystal Palace last time out.

The manager added: "Sadly, Lucas will come back into the squad. He's another player who has shown, I don't know something, and he's got himself back into the Brazil squad.

"We've got a number of players here who are developing and improving in their careers, and he's not one of them.

"The likes of Lucas will come back into the squad and, as I've said, it's the semi-strongest squad I've had since the beginning of the season."
