Rodgers said he's taking longer to recover from surgery than expected.

I don't think we'll see much of him this season

he's been out for a long time, i think he's one of our better players but if its as bad as his time out suggests we should be looking to replace him

And cos he's not good enough.

That's the best reason to replace him like.

When is the last time we had a very very good LB ? It must be Riise in his prime. There are not so many excellent LBs out there - and those that are cost a fortune.

I'm quite happy with Enrique for now, strong and powerful, very fast and agile (in the season we bought him from Newcastle he had the best record for any FB of having players go past him the least - only twice in the whole season), technically adept and a good passer. If you are looking for someone who has all that plus can really cross and score goals then we're in Leighton Baines territory (and he is neither as strong nor as fast as Enrique) and the sort of transfer fee a player of that stature would cost.

M Sakho Hamstring Injury 16th Feb 14

J Wilshere Ankle/Foot Injury 8th Feb 14 Late Fit Test

He's the best we have available now.

That doesn't make me happy with him by a long chalk though (that's a silly phrase, must look it up).

We can, & will, get a better LB in the summer, I just wish this lucasitis would stop (a players ability to get better in fans minds each game he doesn't play, usually linked to the lack of better players available for his position).

Enrique has been a big loss. He
Should have been back in training by now. Watched the first half of the derby again last night and seeing Cissokho shit out of 50/50 challenges and even for balls where he should have been favourite is horrible to see in a defender.

I certainly don't think it's a case of 'Lucasitis' ! Enrique is often underrated because he is not perfect .... however all players have weaknesses so it's whether his strengths are real strengths and whether his weaknesses are real or is it maybe they just don't meet expectations (no matter how unrealistic).

I think Lucas and Enrique are players of very similar quality. It's just the matter of there being loads more quality DM's in world football than there are quality LB's.

Getting a better LB isn't close to being a priority for me, I'd rather we sort out our future at RB first. Enrique does enough in attack, and is arguably one of the best defensive LB's anywhere, so he isn't really hurting us if we use him for a few seasons. Using Flanagan MK I or Johnson at RB is a much bigger issue because they were big liabilities in defense, so they were actually undermining our game plans.

Flanagan MK II does a significantly better job though. I love that he can actually win headers, and place them with some accuracy.

Reds provide quintet injury update

Liverpool hope to be nearing a fully-fit squad of players to choose from by the end of February, according to head of performance, Glen Driscoll.

The Reds have had to make do without the likes of Daniel Agger, Lucas Leiva, Mamadou Sakho, Glen Johnson and Jose Enrique in recent weeks.
However, Agger and Johnson this week resumed training at Melwood - while Lucas, Sakho and Enrique are all making good progress in their rehabilitation programmes.
Driscoll told Liverpoolfc.com: "Daniel Agger and Glen Johnson came through training very well yesterday and today, which is good news.
"It's just a matter of monitoring their conditioning in terms of their availability for games, and it leaves us with just three injuries.
"Mamadou Sakho actually had a tear in his tendon and not the muscle of the hamstring as initially reported. For a whole host of reasons tendons take longer to heal, but he is working hard and progressing.
"Lucas Leiva was due to be in a brace for six weeks, according to specialists' opinion, but yesterday he was outside running just over three weeks in, which is fantastic and shows just how ahead of schedule he is.
"Jose Enrique also had a complex knee issue and following surgery is in the process of achieving his final strength gains before he can return to training."
Driscoll added: "Without providing specific dates I would hope that by the end of the month we should start to get the likes of Jose, Lucas and Sakho back.
"It's normal in a squad of 25 to carry three to four injuries at any one time. Obviously we would rather we always give the manager a full complement of players to choose from but unfortunately this season we have sustained some complex long-term injuries and that's when injuries can build up as the remaining squad members have to play more often.
"Overall, we haven't had more injuries than last season when we had the least in the Premier League, but it's just been unfortunate that a couple of them have been quite long term."
Liverpool's defensive ranks have been affected most by injury this season, though Driscoll doesn't believe there is a correlation between the position of the players and the problems sustained.
"Impact injuries can happen to any players," he said. "We have seen quite a lot of syndesmosis ankle injuries this season, they are almost exclusively a result of impact or tackles and have been spread evenly amongst the defenders, midfielders and forwards.
"Similarly, you can lose a player like Coutinho for two months due to a high-impact challenge and a shoulder injury, so I don't think position is that important."

Why is it our defensive players that are injured and none of our attacking players are?

Do they do different training,or is more asked of them? Or is it just a coincidence.

LFC fitness guy Ryland Morgan was on sky sports the other night along with guys in similar roles from Leeds and Man u, he came across really well and mentioned the manager is very receptive them and their ideas.

Talk of zero gravity treadmills and such, sounds very cool. It's all come a long way from a lap of the pitch, a quick stretch and your half time orange.

Chelsea have invested a massive amount in their training stuff recently (due to ppi no doubt as it offsets transfer costs) & have a swimming pool that had treadmills, cross trainers & exercise bikes that work underwater. I love to see them in action. Must be hard as fuck.

Hope Abramovich gets pissed off with all the cold calls

That is very good news. Sounds like Johnson and Agger available for Swansea, and the other 3 potentially for the next game at Southampton.
