If Gerrard leaves in the summer...

TBH the only way I wouldn't be that bothered by him stayin/.leaving is if he starts to pick his game up again. If last week was a one off and he goes back to meh x meh for the last 6 then I wouldn't care that much as long as we got a good price. Put it this way, I'd rather Gerrard leaves than Torres/Masch/Reina.

Gerrard is having a bad season by his extremely high standards. He has had injury problems. He's playing alongside shite players like Lucas, Kuyt, N'gog. I know we will see him back to his best next season providing we get some quality players who are good enough to play with him and by that I mean being able to spot where he's going to pass the ball etc... like Torres only he's been injured too much this season. Gerrard is our second best and most important player. It is beyond me how people can even consider selling our captain.

There is no way Gerrard is moving abroad.

If his biography is anything to go by he can barely stand going abroad for anything more than a few days.

Surely if there are other personal problems, then moving to London or Manchester are certainly not going to make life easier.

It was a massive loss if Gerrard went no doubt about it, and even 40m would not go anywhere near to replacing what he gives to this team club and city.

He won't leave in any case. No chance.

Oh oh!

can't see gerrard leaving, not at this stage of his career. he'll go to the world cup come back and be rearing to get on with a new season, rafa or no rafa.

I wouldn't be bothered as he is our greatest strength but also our biggest weakness.

Should stop repeating these rumours which have dogged for quiet a while, I know opposition fans do it but there's a diff rumour everyweek. But it is a forum I guess...
Gerrard, the best player I have seen in an Liverpool shirt and saviour many times.
An absolute phenomenon and if he does leave then he can go with my blessing, but just not to Chelsea 😉

He is undoubtedly our best player and has a considerable amount of talent and can play in numerous positions extremely well. But his increasing moodiness and sullen attitude has an adverse affect on the team - which I suspect will affect other players and their morale. He generally seems to be only happy when things are going HIS way and everything is just right for him.

I also think that he isn't disciplined enough or has the engine\desire to play CM anymore, if you watch him playing CM his tracking back is poor. Off Nando he has played really really well but whilst his drive and determination gets us so far and win us a lot of games, he isn't really that sort of player - well for me anyway.

He is neither a CM or SS which means we have to find room for him which I am sure has affected how Rafa has wanted us to play.

Now, he is a great player of that there is no doubt. The mistake when rafa joined was not to help him develop his discipline as a CM and then buy a proper SS which would have added extra ammo going forward.

So I guess my point is that maybe if he were to leave a freedom would come in selection choices and other players confidence. Plus it would enable us to purchase a proper CM and SS therefore giving us extra to what we have.

There is nothing wrong with his discipline. The problem, this season, has been injuries and moodiness.
But when's he's injured we lose more games. I don't really understand how having one of our best ever players leave could be a good thing.
If (and it's a massive if) every penny from sales is given to the manager this summer then perhaps you could justify sacrificing the big players to strengthen the entire squad. But if the money wasn't forthcoming and let's face it we have no reason to think it will, selling Gerrard, Torres, Mascherano would be absolute suicide.

Yes- suicide on a playing front, and in terms of establishing and maintaining a global market for LFC.

There are, apparently, lots of rumours doing the rounds in Liverpool about Stevie's marriage having broken down, him living away from his family, and negotiating a summer transfer to Milan. I don't know how true any of this is, although it would certainly explain his glum demeanour and generally poor play this season.

But anyway, how would you all feel if this were true? I'd be sad, obviously, at losing one of the greatest (perhaps THE greatest) Liverpool player I've ever had the privilege of watching, especially if he were to leave without ever winning the league here, and for such personally distressing reasons.

On a football level, however, I wonder if it might prove a blessing in disguise. I'm not letting one bad season cloud my judgment here, nor kidding myself that Gerrard has been anything other than our most inspirational player for years and years.

But he has been so dominant that sometimes you get the impression everyone else is afraid to take the initiative themselves. He has also, I think most people would agree, been a less than perfect captain. And finally, two of our most recent high-profile, big-money signings have failed (Keane and Aquilani), seemingly because both occupy positions a little too close to Gerrard's. I do wonder: if he's no longer there, will we finally buy a proper no10 AND a proper creative CM (or see if Aquilani can fill the latter role)? Will we play with more freedom, be less reliant on one or two players?

Sometimes (cf Everton after Rooney, Arsenal after Henry) teams seem oddly liberated when their most totemic player is sold. Could that be the case for us, or am I fooling myself - and will losing our captain and best player be the final nail in LFC's coffin?
I've heard the rumours of the split but not the leaving bit. Can see it happening though and agree that it could be beneficial to both parties but it will be a very sad day if it happens. At his best one of the most excillerating players ever.

According to Italian daily Tuttosport, Inter Milan will launch a summer bid to lure Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard to the San Siro.

Inter coach Jose Mourinho has reportedly highlighted the need to buy a world-class midfielder and having given up on the idea of signing Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas, he is targeting Gerrard. Mourinho attempted to sign Gerrard from Liverpool when he was manager of Chelsea and is clearly a big admirer of the England midfielder.

Tuttosport reports that the possibility of signing Gerrard would rest on whether Liverpool qualify for next season's Champions League or not. There has been persistent speculation over whether Gerrard's ambition is matched by the Anfield club, where he has spent his entire career until now.

Were there a possibility of signing Gerrard, Tuttosport speculates that the 29 year-old would cost Inter Milan around 35 million Euros. Inter President Massimo Moratti would apparently look to fund the transfer partly through the sale of unsettled striker Mario Balotelli .

I'd only sell if it were a fucking shitload of cash.

I don't particularly want him to go like, but if we raked in something near the £50M mark, we could replace him, and buy another top quality player.

Obviously its a massive gamble trusting benitez with that cash, and for that reason alone, i'm reluctant to want to let him go.

50 mill for a 30 year old?

I don't think so.

You'd have to say €35m would be a good deal, financially. I wouldn't mind Balotelli as part of the deal either.

It's probably bollocks though, seeing as Mourinho is clearly not going to be at Inter next season.

I wouldn't be in the least bit surpriised if he left.

He's been far too good for us throughout his career and we're lucky to have kept him this long.

Gerrard ain't leaving. Above all else, those who courted him probably aren't that interested anymore. Certainly not to the tune of 20mil plus. No chance.

Heh, is this normal behaviour for a man who is supposed to pack his bags after this season??

The 29-year-old said he was determined to be more than just the 'celebrity face' of the business but added football remained his priority.
He said: 'This is my first venture in the restaurant trade but I think it's important to also say that my priorities are, and always will be, on the football pitch.'
