I wanNaby (Under the sea in an Octopus's Garden in the Shade) - Deal Confirmed

I don't think Leon Goretzka is on Klopp's list. Kieta worries me, not because of ability but his dodgy ticker and price. EPL is the most physically demanding league in Europe, with the most games of any top flight league. Can Kieta handle the physical demands.
You really need to stop this bollocks re. PL most games etc. and can players from certain leagues handle the demands.

Minutes is what counts and whether that's only in the league or in Euro matches or cup games, is irrelevant to a greater degree. Note that in Germany cup games means from R1 not R3 as for PL teams. And yes we have the LC but that's mainly for squad players until the semis anyway. Also the top teams in Germany are always in European events, and usually going deep into them.

Example. I just picked Lewandowski from Bayern, no idea how his minutes compare to his team mates. However he played 33 BL games 9 CL games 4 Pokal (cup) and one Supercup. Toal 4,021 mins. I guessed at who may have played the most for us : Wijnaldum 3,338 mins, Milner 3,437 mins and Firmino 3,463 mins.

Now what were you saying about physical demands ? Lewandowski played the equivalent of over 6 games more than Firmino.

I'd be a bit disappointed with this to tell the truth, it looks more like signing a backup to Milner than signing a left back. I just don't think Robertson's good enough and I've seen him play live on more than a few occasions this year.
I'd be very disappointed. Tierney please ! He'd solve the problem both now and for the foreseeable future.

That's the problem for me, I don't mind buying potential as long as it's potential that at least can kick on and be first choice inside a couple of seasons; I don't see that in Robertson.

I just want to sign him, I'm fed up trying to find the smart buy who's ultimately the wrong buy, this guy is clearly a super talent, is hyped around Europe, and looks perfect for our team, and Klopp wants him. Let's stop fucking around and just sign him, It'll be a massive statement for the club and he'll undoubtedly improve us.

Yeah, make an obvious statement of intent and offer them £70m, loudly and publicly.

See what happens then. It would be an exciting signing. Huge in fact.

Klopp himself said our league is more demanding. Only in our league do you have to play at 100% in practically every game. The German and Spanish league can get away with playing at 60% for the majority of their games.

@King Binny In your opinion is this guy really worth £70m or would you rather we paid around £30m for Leon Goretzka?
Price wise, it's really hard to gauge how worthy/logical it is in today's crazy market. Nathan Ake, who has only 30 starts in top flight football went for £20m and Renato Sanches left for £30m + add ons on the back of his debut season with 22 starts. On the other hand, Corentin Tolisso who had 3.5 seasons of solid Ligue 1 footing cost £35 million + add ons. There are so many factors involved - players current ability, player's potential, role/importance to selling club, time left on contract contract, buying club's need + player's suitability to its playing style etc.

From Leipzig's point of view - it doesn't make sense to sell the player if the fee is similar/lesser than that of his release clause which kicks in next yr (£48m?). Then, there's also ambition for CL progression and league position consolidation.

For us, we have to consider if paying above our valuation for him is worthwhile if it helps us steal a march on our rivals who may jump at the the opportunity to activate the clause. Logically speaking, he will only get better so his valuation will only continue to rise. Who's to say he won't sign an improved contract with a higher buy out fee (since he needn't worry about being short of takers)? Will we regret on the missed opportunity by then? How many players in his position of his age and calibre are ready to come into the starting XI now the way he can? Having excelled in RB Salzburg and Leipzig's style of play gives him an added advantage too. Thus, I'll have Keita over Goretzka at the suggested prices.

Unlike spending £32.5m on Benteke and £36m Carroll, both of whom majority of us had major doubts for, this is a different type of 'concern' over transfer fee. Just like how money 'saved' from not spending in the Jan transfer window can be rolled over, I don't think it will hurt to spend subsequent transfer windows' budgets 'in advance' - provided that the player is right for us. The likes of Mane, Coutinho, Salah, Firmino, Matip, Clyne are all around 25. Imagine IF we get van Dijk and Keita (turning 26 and 23 respectively), there wouldn't be urgent need to invest heavily on starting XI players for various key positions.

Meanwhile, let's not forget that making the top 4 will only get increasingly difficult (besides the other 'Big 5' sides, even the likes of Everton and Bournemouth are splashing the cash and will continue to do so ). I think we all agreed how crucial it was to make it to the top 4 last season and that this transfer window is one of the most important ones in recent years which we have to capitalize on. Not that it's mutually exclusive, but between overpaying within our means to enhance our immediate chances of challenging for top honours vs. landing 2nd/3rd choice alternatives and end up failing to consolidate our league position and push for growth, I'll definitely go for the former.

Obviously we don't want to advertise to everyone that we have a ton of cash to spend, but I don't want to be missing out on top top players because we are afraid the next club will hold us hostage over the fee, our negotiators have to be able to deal with that eventuality.

Try that and see where that gets you !

It may be true if you are Bayern Munich or Real Madrid / Barca. It most certainly isn't so for anyone else and it most definitely wasn't so for RBL.

I was being entirely serious

On the topic of bones and teeth, this is Doumbia, apparently he's 29?! I call bullshit.

Is it normal for a club to agree wages and contract length with a player before they even contact his club and make a bid?

Maybe it's a new transfer strategy we're trying out after the failure of v.(1), also known as The Van Dijk Theorum.

No, unfortunately this is almost certainly bullshit, unless of course in the initial conversations between agents and the club, they give a ball park figure on contracts and the rough area they'd be looking at, and if the agent likes, that counts as "agreed".

Everywhere now seems to be reporting that we're after him and are 'preparing' a bid (like you have to bake the fucking thing). And quite a few saying that it's pending Klopp getting back next week - that didn't matter with the Salah deal now did it. I'd rather be seeing headlines like 'deal agreed' 'bid made' or 'are in talks with club', not 'are preparing a bid' bollocks.

RB Leipzig have already signed Keita's replacement, RedBullSalzburg's Konrad Laimer on a four-year deal.

Sporting director Ralf Rangnick: "Konrad Laimer will improve our team in our transitional play and regaining possession."

I think it's normal. In fact in almost every transfer nowadays the buying club and the player reach "preliminary agreement" on contract before proceeding with transfer fee negotiations. Ostensibly this is done with the selling club's permission; not sure what happened with the Van Dijk situation that made it so different.

Yep, didnt we also reach an agreement with Salah about 2 weeks before the deal was done with Roma?

This may have already been covered but if he's so brilliant, why is no one else after him?

Is it simply the case that few of the big sides are after central midfielders? Barca seem to be... any others?

It depends on when it was issued - if it was issued shortly before he left the country i wouldn't rely on it.

If it was issued within 15 days of the birth i'd be happy enough - but only half of Guinea births were registered on time.
I thought most african birth certificates are issued within 15 days of the registered birthdate ... usually when the person is in their early teens

Bayern are interested, or at least they were.
