I Feel Odd

For the first summer in years I am very calm about how we go about our business this summer.

I have preferences, but generally I am very relaxed about how Benitez goes about his business this summer.

As long as we keep our key players - Reina, Carragher, Skrtel, Agger, Carragher, Mascherano, Alonso, Gerrard and Torres then I think we'll have a great chance next season, regardless of who we sign.

I am can even see the reasoning behind selling Alonso (while his stock is high) and improving the whole team as a whole, should Benitez feel this is a good decision. I trust his judgement and like the way he goes about his business. My preference is to keep Alonso, but if we improve overal as a team then I'm not going to complain about it.

I can't Benitez having a disaster like he did last summer, infact even if he tried I don't think he can get it as wrong as he did last summer.

But given the signings we've seen since he's arrived at the club, the current strength of our side and the comments made by Benitez - saying he wants few changes being made and the players who come will have to be top players to get into this side... overally I am very relaxed about this summer.

Actually I just hope Torres doesn't get injured in the Conferation Cup more than anything.

Is anyone else feeling like this?

I don't really have any major preferences this summer, so I'm just hoping whoever we bring in fits the bill. I can't say I'm anywhere near as confident as you though.

I'm not at all relaxed about who he'll bring in. I don't think we'll get a better chance to win the league than the season just passed and we fell short because of bad signings last summer.

I fear Alonso out, Barry in will be the first move we make and I can only hope it gets a whole lot better after that.

I think it's vital we keep Alonso. Our team is settled with him. Barry is a very 'meh' signing and i'd hope he'd be the last through the door if we have any change left after buying a top class winger and solid RB. I'd consider keeping Babel as a back up striker too. But if he goes, we'll need a good striker as well.

Honestly, a summer of no outgoings (save Voronin & Degen) and just Ribery (pipe dream looking at some of the recent figures, i know) and Johnson (I only say him, not because I rate him that highly but because we could use Pennant/Crouch money for him) would be more than fine for me.

The idea of chopping and changing a lot of our squad players may sound appealing, but I don't think it'd help us next year. We need consistency.

We've got a good platform to build on, and we have a good opportunity.

Sound familiar? Probably because it is the same as last year, when we abjectly failed, frittering away millions and millions on two spectacular failures and one unspectacular buy.

We can't afford for Rafa to do just better... you assume that everything else will remain the same, but it won't. Our defense is a bigger question mark, as I think Carragher won't be able to play as many games. Other players may suffer drops in form.

We operate within finer margins and can't afford the same sort of failure again, especially given the small gate receipts, debt, clueless ownership etc.

Well after last summers transfer window Rafa is overdue a good one. It'll be interesting to see if he goes back in for players Parry supposedly failed to land him.

I am more anxious than ever, we have been very close this year, and we need to make the right signing to carry on with the push rather than waste the money over the summer (which we pretty much did last summer) and lose out on players...Im scared Rafa will make shit signings
