Are the owners being penny wise and pound foolish? By not investing 70m now to get us to top 4 are they depleting the asset to the point where it will become harder ans harder as years go by? And will we lose out on sponsor gigs? And pay players more to join us because we r still in transition?
Wouldn't it be cheaper to splash out now? Again?
Whats the cost benefit analysis? Any thoughts?
My mate is actually good mates with Seth Johnson and he swears blind that it went like this.Ah, the great Peter Ridsdale.
Seth Johnsons agent wanted 15k when negotiating a new contract, Ridsdale offered 35k.
Sensible man indeed.
My mate is actually good mates with Seth Johnson and he swears blind that it went like this.
Seth and his agent go into the meeting expecting a 15k salary.
Ridsdale - 'The most we can offer you is 28k'
Seth looks at his agent.
Ridsdale missinterprets
Ridsdale - 'Ok 35k but thats our final offer'
According to Seth himself this is the stone truth.
Your wage bill reflects your league position, so ours should be higher than most if we want top 4, however once you miss out on that cl place it can't be, meaning you can't get in the top 4 again. Ad infinitum.
As we were one of the key protagonists in getting the level of separation between the haves & the have not's it's as ironic as it is sickening that this hateful situation is of our own creation.
The only way to get us financially capable of competing each year is either a miracle worker getting us up there on lesser resources for a couple of years & competing in the cl again, or the tv rights money being renegotiated on the basis of popularity. I hate the latter option btw, as it goes against the core values of football & supporting all levels that I believe is key in this country.
Ten years may as well be never.
All the talk of 1 year, 2 years or whatever is based on management getting things bang on and... well.... come on now.
Rogers has no real track record to speak of and so far our American owners haven't done anything more impressive than hire a DoF that turned out to be useless and then abandon the idea altogether all the whilst overseeing us waste all our money on overpaid shit. There is nothing here but blind faith and hope that everything will turn out okay.
Are we really going to see 3 / 4 youngsters come out of the reserves and properly establish themselves, unearth gems in the transfer market and successfully build a team of young players capable of challenging 2 or 3 years down the line?
How likely is that really?
We'll need Wenger in his prime esque genius to pull this off. Great if it happens but I'm not holding my breath.
Insane 🙂

Defo, remember Parrybowl getting scrapped because Houllier won those three cups? The board decided it didn't need extra dough to compete if they had the right manager. This board is making the same gamble, the difference this time is that this board don't really give a fuck what happens to LFC.
I reckon they've had a discussion at some point last season when it was going shit and they've asked each other if they have the appetite to take on the seven teams above us with another throw of the dice and the answer has been NO. They know that they got the club for peanuts and will make a profit on it either way. To invest to try to get back into the top 4 is a gamble, it failed last year, they got scared and they aren't doing it again. Get used to mid table shite until they sell us.
I don't think we need too long. A season maybe. We're not as far off as some pessimist espout. Last season we played some pretty damn great football but our finishing was exceptionally poor. We won't be that poor again and a few wins under the belt will infect the players with confidence and belief. We certainly have a tough start but it will be all bout mentality and belief.
Go RedMen!
