Anyone watch the games last night? Ulster absolutely murdered Leicester 42-7 last night, and are starting to look like a serious team after a shaky start in the Magner's league. I know Leicester were missing a few players, but they were battered in every area of their game.

Saracens apart, the English teams don't seem to have the quality of their Celtic and Gallic counterparts, is that fair?

I'm raging I missed the Ulster match last night. They seem to be playing well this season, we've had a few too many seasons where we've been mediocre. They beat Munster over Christmas too, which was nice.

I was wearing my Ulster top a few months ago in the centre of Athens and I heard some police man say to his mate "look there's Rooney". Cunt. I look nothing like Rooney. The Ulster top looks nothing like a United top either.

Great display from the Ulster men last night (Personally i thought that Leicester might just win this game hehe).

I think thats a fair point Doc, although with most of our internationals being shared between only a handful of sides, it certainly gives us an advantage.

Things seem to have really clicked over the past few weeks, and I have a feeling they are going to get better from now to the end of the season. We have a mix of top international players and excellent local boys. The combination of Pienaar and the young scrum half Paul Marshall is very exciting.

The Irish selectors really *must* have a look at Marshall. He's a proper quick thinking creative scrum half. Scored a try with a quick break last night and was involved in 3 out of 4 tries away to Edinburgh in the game before that. It is a weak area in the International set up just now and Kidney could show himself to be forward thinking by bringing this guy in. He's learning from one of the best in the business under Pienaar, and seems just as dangerous as his mentor.

It would be good if the Irish selectors do have a look at Marshall, too often I've watched Ireland play and thought that they lack that quick edge. Over the past 10 years Ireland has had a good team but they've never had that speed of movement that other teams seem to have. In my mind anyways.

You've had plenty wide out, but you have lacked it at half-back. Sexton could change that, but he needs the right no.9 beside him in order to do so.

This boy looks a different class to Reddan and that bloody big sloth we were playing. He isn't a big unit like Murray (which lamentably, may be a problem for Kidney), but I think he's considerably sharper.

Kenny4 - it's being reported that Worcester, who are looking for a new tight-head, are considering a move for Rhys Thomas, who's out of contract with the Scarlets this summer. Any views?

He's a good club player mate, just a little short of international class imo.

I had high hopes for him a few years back (Wales wise), but he's not come on as i was expecting too.

Connacht 9-8 Harlequins. That result means Ulster are through to the quarter-finals. Bit of a shock win, Connacht have managed to lose their previous 14 games! Eric Elwood is their coach, he's gotten old looking! All those defeats must of piled the years on.

Shocker of a result for Harlequins. A windy night in Galway has been the undoing of many a team.

Yeah, guaranteed quarters now. Still, we'll want to get something at Clermont and secure a home draw. I'd fancy us against any team (barring Leinster perhaps) at Ravenhill. Even a losing bonus point is enough I think. But Clermont are a fucking serious team at home. I don't think they've lost there for about 3 years.

Yeah being a follower of our domestic game i'm fully aware of how bloody good you irish are on your home turf. If you manage to get a losing bonus point it would be a job well done away at Clermont (especially considering that you now have a certain Lee M Byrne to contend with as well 😉).

I'm just hoping that Cardiff can make it through to the quarters by beating Racing this weekend.

You'll hammer them easily at home.

Clermont:

15. Lee Byrne, 14. Sitiveni Sivivatu, 13. Aurélien Rougerie, 12. Wesley Fofana, 11. Julien Malzieu, 10. David Skrela, 9. Morgan Parra, 1. Lionel Faure, 2. Benjamin Kayser, 3. Clément Ric, 4. Julien Pierre, 5. Nathan Hines, 6. Gerhard Vosloo, 7. Julien Bardy, 8. Julien Bonnaire

It's just as well you don't need to get a result there

Good first half SUFTUM!

There's no shame in being beaten by them. Away QF for you now though.

Leinster cruised through today

Should have beaten them. Unfortunately the ref was influenced by that magnificent crowd filling that magnificent stadium (and in fairness to him, you can understand it). They should have had a few sin-binnings. It was still an excellent performance by Ulster. Bonus point wasn't enough for a home tie due to their points tally against Aironi, but that performance suggests we can go anywhere and have a shot. Hope we avoid Munster or Leinster. Anyone else I'd be happy enough.

Munster it is. They will play in Thomond Park on 6-8 April.

That will require a trip to the james joyce to watch.

HEINEKEN CUP QUARTER-FINALS
(Ties to be played the weekend of 6/7/8 April)

Munster v Ulster
Leinster v Cardiff Blues
Edinbugh v Toulouse
Saracens v Clermont Auvergne

HEINEKEN CUP SEMI-FINALS
(Ties to be played the weekend of 28/29 April)

Saracens/Clermont Auvergne v Leinster/Cardiff Blues
Munster/Ulster v Edinburgh/Toulouse

That's set up nicely for Munster to reach the final.

Semi finalists:

Munster
Leinster
Toulouse
Clermont Auvergne

Yeah, it is hard to argue with that.

You'd have to say one of Leinster, Munster, or Clermont.

Ulster gave Munster a good doing at Ravenhill in January, but it is a big ask do do it in their patch. Clermont are a great side at home, but they are certainly beatable, so I'd be more inclined to say an Irish side will win this, and Leinster the most likely.

I'm just not impressed with Munster this year. They have done very well so far, but this team is not a patch on recent sides they've been able to field.
