Have we had a 'who should we sign' thread?

How is Podolski getting on these days?
Rumours of him going to the Gooners,
He certainly had a spell where he knew where the back of the net was.

Podolski is brilliant and have wanted to buy him for about 5 years.
Would cost loads though!

I don't think our problems are limited to finishing chances off. Part of the problem is that we have a lot of possession but struggle to create clear cut chances. That was certainly the case against Fulham.

We need a very good attacking player that can make things happen in the final third. I want someone creative with sublime technique that can hold onto the ball in the tightest of corners. A Silva. An Iniesta. Someone on Suarez's level both in terms of skill and style. The only issue is that the only targets I can think of seem out of reach. Players like Goetze. At least as a winter signing for a club 6th in the league and not in Europe.

Hoillet could turn out to be a good player in the right hands. He'd be "one for the future" though and would "bolster the squad" rather than truly raise the bar for us. If he is relatively cheap though and Blackburn don't decide to follow Bolton's logic with Cahill then it'd be worth looking at.

If we are going to spend big I'd rather it wasn't on someone like Bent who isn't going to be good enough in the long run (and repeat the mistake we made with Downing). He's a great goal getter but top clubs are less willing to put up with a player that has little to offer outside the box and that's why he failed at Spurs.

I think we should see if we can swap Carroll for Demba Ba.

He looks better every time I see him.

Very well put.

Cavani, Lavezzi and Tomas Muller. We should sign ALL 3! 😛 We need players who can convert the gazillion chances we create. Plus theyre all class!!

We just need Gerrard 11 21 24 12 and 8 (in 24 apperances last season), add to those goals a shitload of assists! He is the spark that we are missing .....

Hoffenheim striker Vedad Ibisevic might be available for around £6m. He is 26 and his contract expires in 2013. He's been linked with a move to Blackburn (and Everton, more recently), but would probably fancy a move to a bigger club. Btw, he scored a brace against Nurnberg yesterday.

A winger and a goalscorer please. Get them in now, make sure they're good, and we can be working towards next season.

Yes. Stop wasting time on them starlets, prodigies, one season wonders, etc.

Get a PROVEN, world-class striker, and watch us score goals for fun. Blow our budget, I don't care.

We're creating chances but nobody lethal enough to put them away. That's why we're languishing at 6/7th.

We should go for Podolski. He has casted shadows over his long term future in Cologne, and is a very good player who would fit in at us with his clinical finishing.

A world class player in attack.

I might change my fucking name to that.
Ryan you continue to post that as if it was some ground breaking idea. Every poster on this site wants us to have more world class players. Heck, I'd settle for a class player even. So this thread is asking us for suggestions of who we should sign. Now its up to the individual whether they want to be realistic or not with their selections.

'We need more world class players in attack'. YEAH WE KNOW RYAN, NO ONE IS DISAGREEING WITH YOU.

insertwinksmiley here.

A lot of people dont want to go out on a limb and suggest someone Dave, can you imagine if they turned out to be shite????

;D

I called Downing one of the best left wingers in the league once when he played for Boro, I probably cant do any worse than that.....

Robert Lewandowski.
I know you really rate him Holle, and we have scouted him apparently but the few times I have seen him play he hasn't impresses me.

Also, isn't Barrios more of the out and out goalscorer?

He is. But I do like Lewandowski's versatility. He can play almost everywhere in attack.

Apart from him we should really really really try to sign Xherdan Shaqiri from FC Basel before someone else does.

He's going to be world class.

Personally I reckon we'll score loads of goals soon. It's been more down to bad luck, poor form and lack of selfbelief than anything else when it comes to our shortcomings in attack imo.

We'd be better of with a Shaqiri/Hazard style of player than a striker at the moment. Imo.

We'd probably have to take a good look at our DM options as well. Spearing did fine against Fulham untill the red but I'm not sure he's the answer long term. With Lucas out and Shelvey not a real candidate in that position we're looking rather slim in options.

As said elsewhere a cheap-ish but great option would be William Kvist (Stuttgart) the most interesting one (expensive too) would be Javi Martinez. I don't know much of that Porto fella but as he's got a lot of posters on here joining his fan-group already, he'd perhaps be worth a bet too.

Hazard or Eriksen please.

*likes*

Really hope that dodgy Eriksen rumour was true. Haven't even made to the Danish medias to probably not. Would be a fine Christmas present to us all mind.

I think these ships have sailed. They're more likely to go to Real, United or the like.

WE. NEED. A. STRIKER.

PRONTO.
I understand everyones frustration that we don't score enough but Andy Carroll is a striker.

The thing is when we prefer to play with only Suarez on top as against QPR we couldn't find room for another striker anyways which leaves us with two options imo.

1) Bring in a winger/forward player who'll not only supply with assists but also chip in now and then. Ronaldo-type if you like. Not many of these players around of course but the likes of Hazard/Shaqiri would suffice.

2) Start playing Andy Carroll on a more regular basis, give the lad some confidence. He'll score goals when he first finds form. Not been impressed with him so far but having seen him a lot with Newcastle and in glimpses for us, it's obvious he's a striker.
