Have I got this right? (Ticket sales)

So, as this season is looking seemingly impossible, if I wanted to go to Anfield next season, the best way for me to get tickets would be in the big sales they have in July/November? During these sales they sell tickets to all the home games, first sale for tickets in the first half of the season, second sale for the second half? So if I wanted to go to four games with a friend in the first half of next season, I'd have to buy 8 tickets at once in the July sale? Have I got that right?

Sorry if that's awfully precise, but for someone who hasn't bought tickets recently, you need a flipping degree to understand how the ticket system works, and to be frank it seems a complete piss up. I just want to be prepared for next season, as foolishly this season I assumed it would just involve me pressing F5 a lot and having more than half a weeks notice (general resale), but clearly not.

I haven't done it that way but yes, I believe that is how it works.

Might want to update your title to mention ticket sales to draw in those who use it.

I believe you also need to purchase a fan card to enable you to buy those tickets, so if you want to buy 4x 2 tickets for each game, you'd need the two fan cards.
Why they do it this way, god only knows. But it's a full house most weeks so they're probably not bothered about making it fair.

One ticket per fan card?! You're having a fucking laugh. So basically I'm going on my own or I've got to risk getting another ticket less than a week before. It's such a piss poor system, truly abysmal.

Good idea, I can't unfortunately, If a mod wants to I'd be most grateful.

So hang on, if you were to want to go with a mate, does this mean it's practically impossible to get seats next to each other?

Had the same problem begged my Arsenal supporting friend to buy a fancard.

Do you have to have the fancard with you at Anfield? That way you could at least borrow someone elses card to buy the ticket, but would then need the card on the day too. Seems inexcusable not to allow a fancard to buy at least two tickets.

You pretty much have everything right @Mystic
The best time to get tickets is during the first sale in July and November but it requires a lot of pre planning with the probability that the TV schedule hasn't been announced by then.
There are other opportunities to buy tickets but there are less available then and they are selling out increasingly quickly.
Oh and you have to have been to a significant amount of games in the preseason to be able to purchase tickets for the Everton and Man U games.
Your membership card is used to access the ground

of course not, you pick your seats while buying the tickets. But if you buy the tickets on seperate occasions it's a bit different.

Thanks for all this info, very informative.

So the situation I will be in next season is that I'll be buying two tickets, one for me, and then one for anyone I can convince to come. Are the only realistic options for me making this happen to buy two fancards (am I even allowed to do that?) and buy two tickets in July/November, one on each? Or, buy one ticket on my fancard in July/November, then hope I can pick up another ticket on my fancard in the general sale the week before?

Sorry I have to spell this out so specifically, but this system seems so fucking shit that I want to be sure.

The general sale is usually about three/four weeks before the match date but there aren't many tickets available. there were less that four hundred on sale for the upcoming Spurs game and sold out in less that one minute,
Sometimes some more tickets become available for membership card holders the week of the game, probably returns and the like but there are probably even less of these for sale.
These were viable and relatively easy options for getting tickets up until this season but it has become increasingly difficult to get them this way.
Next season everyone will want to see the reigning champions so I really wouldn't be relying on general sales or otherwise a few weeks before each game to secure tickets.
If I were you I would get access to two membership cards and buy tickets in the main sale,
To set up an account you will need two separate email addresses but apart from that I don't see why you couldn't get two yourself if you needed to.

Yep, I'm resigning myself to this being the only way, it's madness that it's going to be £80 just to have the privilege of trying to buy the bloody tickets, yet alone going. Do they check the cards for identity, or are you call to swap and use them as you please? A friend of mine at work was toying with the idea of getting one, might just give him a nudge in the right direction and see if he's happy to lend his out to me.

I have never been asked to confirm my id as matching the card though @ILD suggested recently that they occasionally check.
You should be grand swapping cards and borrowing others
Isn't there a cheaper membership deal that still allows you to purchase tickets? I think it was twenty five quid this season

Cheers for all the help mate, that's great if we can swap and change, will fucking suck if they start matching cards to IDs though.

Unfortunately they're prices for this season(and as a result massively reduced as it's nearly over), not for next.

The Lite membership will allow you to buy tickets on your card and it is a good deal cheaper than full membership

Sweet, I shall look into that one, can you remember how much it costs for the season? I'm assuming not the £10 it says on the website currently.

Yep get on to your friends to buy a membership card too. I think it's £24. You then link your cards in the family and friends option in your account on the official site. This allows you to buy tickets beside each other. When you select two tickets you can then proceed to the checkout. You select the card holder from the drop down section for each ticket. i.e. one under your name and one under your friends name.

Cool, and if I want to borrow his card for a friend, it's the same process, I just give his card to whoevers coming with me on the day and hope no one checks? I'm guessing they'll throw you out with you've not got ID?

At £24 a pop, I'd be tempted to get two myself, just seems like a bit of a piss take to go through all these hoops just to take someone with you who isn't a die hard Liverpool fan.

They never check your id

I went to two games this season using borrowed fan cards (for me and for 1-3 people accompanying me).
They never checked any IDs, and were even friendly helping my son swiping his card at the turnstiles. Not sure they NEVER check, but looks like they at least don't seem to check them often.

If that's the case, then fantastic, thank you all.

And just one last time for fun, what a load of shit the system.

They don't check ID's. They can't prove you aren't the card holder. What is happening is that stewards are asking to see cards (spot checks to ensure you are sitting in the correct seat) and then request for you to collect cards at the ticket office. It is there that you will need ID to collect the cards. It would be a pain if the actual card holders weren't with you and you had to get them to go to the ticket office to collect them on their own time.

Now, this has never happened to me but it had happened to people I know.

What cards do you collect? Is it not all done electronically via your fancard, or do you get a card for each game too?

The whole system is a farce, Ive bought fancards for 2 people (myself and my gf) for the last 2 / 3 seasons.... basically without going to 1 game in that time....

1. Because by the time fancard sales occur you are limited to shit....
2. You need to be on the system straight away when fancard sales start....
3. You dont know if the games are going to be moved when they sell a half a season in advance... therefore you cant guarantee you are able to go.

Its a bloody awful system the way it has been modified over the last 2 or 3 years.

I for one wont be buying another membership x2 for absolutely no reason next season. I suspect others will be the same and means less money to the club.

So for example, on July 1st they decide to sell all the tickets for the first half of the season, say 10 games. You obviously can't get tickets for scum/everton/city/chelsea/arse so that leaves you say 5 games. You've got to lucky dip those 5 games and hope they're not mid week games or games you can't make etc? What a piss take.

What about if I buy up tickets for all those games, 5x2 tickets? And them just flog them if I can't go?

I guess it's a bit like my mate that has a spurs season ticket - he goes to say 25% of the games and picks and chooses those, and he can sell the ticket on some website that spurs have, he's never had a problem selling his ticket, he could sell every single game if he wants, and he can still renew his ticket for the next season without ever going to a game. A bit like block booking his seat as a tout.

I wonder if it's feasible with this bollocks online system to sort of get yourself a season ticket? Or do all the games for each half sell out in minutes? That's a lot of tickets if they do, like 200k tickets or something.
