Halfway through the Season

You are part of what's wrong with modern football, sadly. Sometimes I wonder if you're even aware of how this club became great in the first place. (Clue: it wasn't by sacking its managers after one season in charge.)

Just a simple question; Can Rodgers be excused for everything that goes wrong during the half season he has been here?

No we did not become great by sacking managers, we become great by hiring the right men in the first place.

FFS, as Del said, you don't get it.

Who is excusing him? Show me anyone who is saying that he's done everything right and the fault lies elsewhere? No one is saying that, he's made mistakes, but it's easier to make mistakes where we are at, we're short of players, short of backing, short of leadership and as far as playing staff goes, we've got a lot of players in the comfort zone, earning big wages and many of them have seen all the false dawns we've had and the different managers. And therein lies your issue, we change managers and bring in yet another group of staff with different ideas and the whole process starts again. No one is getting time to allow their ideas to evolve, or their mistakes to be rectified and the building process to naturally take shape, because too many idiots play the game in their heads or in cyber world, where they think we can jump into being challengers overnight and of course, if the next poor bastard doesn't get it right after half a season then he goes too. It must be great adhering to being a Newcastle fan, they set the blueprint after all.

Has it been a marked improvement so far? No, not in terms of results, not in terms of points and not in terms of disappointment. There have been positive signs in some of our play though, which is why I detest the Hodgson comparisons. The difference between then and now is that at our best, you can see some direction, you can see an idea in place that's not yet got the necessary tools to be realised, so he needs time to be able to buy, to be able to implement a style and squad.

Germany came to fruition a couple of seasons back, when Klinsmann spoke about their initial ideas, he said it had started 5 years before, much like with Barca, the coming together of ideas and everyone pulling in the same direction with a fair level of patience to allow the idea to develop. Of course there were and still are hiccups along the way, but gradually it's paying off more and more and the degree of indulgence it's been afforded will reap it's rewards. Contrast and view that in respect to a guy who's had 4 months at the job, taking on a squad that's notoriously underperformed for the best part of 5yrs.

I'm not saying that allowing everyone time has the same outcome, but posting some of stuff you and others have been posting of late is just utter fantasist, unrealistic bullshit. And usually it's completely lacking in any perspective or any real understanding of what it takes.

I prefer to be super negative and moan, it makes me feel better. However, if I wasn't moaning and bitching I would say that is spot on.

I will of course be back to bitching and moaning tomorrow.

I will give you that I agree on that I detest the Hodgson comparissons. That period was utter bulshit, and I have not mentioned Hodgson since he left the club.

Besides that I can't see any direction now that should result in any glory at any stage. We might not have the best squad in the league, but we definately have a squad better than we get results from now, and we certainly have good enough footballers to play a system based on ball possesion.

I dont believe Rodgers has it to take us one step toward the top. There is nothing in his managerial career that propose that he is a winner, and it definately is nothing he has done so far in his Liverpool career suggesting that we are making any progress playwise. And do look behind results. I see all the excuses about not enough time, Opta stats and lack of penalties. I dont agree on these. And I dont think it is good enough to be a well deserved bottom half team depending on magic from Luis Suarez, especially when most of our squad is full internationals.

So what is the direction you see? We played well against Fulham, and we coincidental plays well every now and then. But not on a regular basis, and we far to often play utterly shit. We dont put their goalies under pressure, and we hardly have more than one man inside the box. The so called system will not get us where we want to be (if it exists) as in England your team will be pressed much harder than in other leagues. You need ball winners in addition to passers, and we hardly win the ball in midfield at all. We are bullied away and we are made laughing stock by relegation battling teams. So all in all I do expect more from our manager after half season.

And yes, if you do read you will definately see that many people here excuse Rodgers whatever happens. And by all means, let them do it. But for me it is just not good enough. And that was my point in the original post.
