And we are in eighth. Did anyone expect anything more than this? Seems to be par for people's expectations for the new era. Fingers crossed for full points from holidays.

We've dropped some silly points, but overall I'm content.

I'm content.

* Suarez comes off as extremely committed, and is one of the best players in the league
* Sterling is one of the most exciting players in the league, and has signed up for another 5 years. His attitude and improvement is something to be positive about.
* The youth that is coming through, and been given a chance, has done a very good job. Wisdom, Suso, Coady, Yesil etc ... Worst case scenario, we sell 'em for a couple of million in 1-3 years ... Or they may be valuable contributors (alla Butt, O'Shea etc at Manure) or proper stars (Beckham, Scholes etc). It was a critical move by Rafa, and hopefully, this only the start of the benefits.
* Jose Enrique has rediscovered his best form and has become a very dependable LB.
* Joe Allen, at least in the beginning of the season, showed he can be an excellent player.
* If it wasn't for a terrible call against Everton, we'd be 2 points off 4th. That's saying that while the journey is going to be a long one, we're on the right track and hopefully, we'll get lucky this year (4th?) and reap the benefits next year.

I really didn't expect us to be 5 points off 4th at Xmas, very surprised. Ahead of expectations. And with some more clinical finishing this season, we'd have probably been in the title race.

We have been far from good enough. Extremelly one dimensional in our style and easy to defend against. The 8th place could just as coincidental been 12th and in a season were plenty of clubs fuck up we should have cemented a top 4 spot. After all we are Liverpool and have a squad filled with internationals. We are not Stoke who also are drifting around in no-mans land 5 points off Everton.

The manager was hired as he was supposed to get the best out of players in a limited budget.. He clearly has å job to do to make us consistant, stronger defensive and make our attacking game less dependent on Suarez. People here has wondered how long Wenger can keep his job.... That shows that we have underperformed. There should be heat on a Liverpool manager being ripped a new arsehole against a bottom team at anfield, and giving him a rest as he might get a result 3 years down the line shows we have lost already. That attitude will eventually reach the club and we will be content being 8. Poor performances bysuch a talented should not be excused by transition talk and time to settle... There is no point in playing badly and loosing even if you tru to implement new ideas, which aint that new afterall.

It's been painful watching while knowing that deep down we are still not any good with absolutely no chance of doing anyting exciting. We might get fourth but it is still highly unlikely IMO, Chelsea look to be warming up and Arsenal always kick on....not too mention a superior Spurs team and a resurgent Everton.

The fact that we are in 5 points of fourth just shows how poor the league has been this season, generally the quality of the league is well down on it's level of 5 or 6 years ago. Maybe if we can reinforce well and they click then we can get back into the big show, it would make everything a lot rosier.

Personally I just hope we beat Stoke today.

I agree. Chelsea suffered a dip, Spurs have been inconsistent and Arsenal are at their worst in quite a while right now.

We have been fairly poor on the whole and whilst there have been encouraging signs in some games I still don't feel like I'm watching the beginnings of a great team here. Wish I could say otherwise and fingers crossed that I'm wrong.

I learnt early this season to just watch the matches and not look at the league table. Ambivalent.

It isn't just down to us that we haven't though. We can't hide behind that, but we shouldn't ignore it either.

Quite. The Everton game was a joke, but as said, we haven't done ourselves any favours either. I also think we've been incredibly naive at times, leaving ourselves wide open in games we should have closed off. We need to get back to that knack of grinding out wins and not necessarily throwing everything at a team while leaving ourselves short at the back, it's been the bane of us this season, particularly against WBA, Arsenal, Villa and United.

Half way through the season and we can confirm we are as shit as last year with no signs of progress, well any progress is balanced out by the fact we have gone backwards in areas such as the defence and midfield.

we are inconsistent, we have been under various manager/owners, we will be for the foreseeable future, its much easier to just accept this and get on with it

Quite.

But that's okay, right? I mean, we were losing before so it makes sense that we're losing now and we should really all be expecting more losing in the future.
I'm definitely expecting it

Without hope there is little point in being a football fan. And extrapolating from the present into the future is silly - we should know that better than anyone. We used to be good. Now we are shit. Some teams used to be shit. Now they are good. Who knows what the fuck will happen.
