Gravenberch

Maybe its just me, (and I sincerely hope I'm wrong) but Gravenberch just doesn't cut it really. I mean - before we got him, half of the folks on here we're in a meltdown about how shit our window was, and now that we have him everything is rosy? Just what has Gravenberch done recently to justify such a 180 degree turnaround in optimism? He's essentially a reject from a team that we should be highly competitive with. Can someone explain this to me so that I can experience this optimism too - when we all know that a stellar DM or LCB was the better move?

Part of the optimism is how well Slob and Mac have settled.

I am not overly convinced either. But we got another talented midfielder in, someone the manager rates highly.
So it is a more low volume "yeah..not bad" from me, but I hope we are not done and that we sign a defender.

So is Klopp going to pull a Gini with one of these and turn a progressive mid into more of a defensively minded midfield player?

Yep, and by the time he has finished with Klopp - he won't have any legs or be able to score goals, and we will call him a sideways passing merchant and hardly value him.

i had szob down for that but i think he might be rounded enough to do a bit of everything

He’s hardly a reject. If you watched him at Ajax, you’d know the potential he has and why this is an exciting signing for Klopp to mould him.
It didn’t work for him at Bayern because of the formation and way they play/setup.
He’s more suited to a 4-3-3 formation rather than the 4-2-3-1 formation.

Yeah for me this is a player that potentially gets Klopped to the next level. We coach better than most - and the record supports that. Plus if we sell them on for a fortune, they are never as good once they leave us.

But he will have won the league and Champions League. Gini was a brilliant player for us. Getting the ball of him was virtually impossible.

I loved Gini - when he went there were very comments stated about how he was the only main guy that nearly available all the time, and the fact that we never replaced him and all this talk about Thiago being his replacement was crazy.

Was he as good @ NCFC or did he just get Klopped?

I think what he means is Bayern is a double-pivot team and in Tuchel’s view Kimmich was misused as the DM, whereas he wants him to be the more creative of the 2 central midfielders, which is why they are buying Palhinha. He was not interested in using Gravenberch in double-pivot with Kimmich, because that would have perpetuated the misprofiling of Kimmich. The only position left for Gravenberch otherwise was as a quasi left-winger or #10.

A bit of an echo from Thiago adjusting from a double-pivot to Klopp’s tactics. I think Bayern and us are just built fundamentally differently.

They're taking their time, when do we get to see it official?

Never. The deal isn't happening.

We are waiting for Bayern to say ok.
Bayern is waiting to sign Palhinha from Fulham to say ok
Fulham is waiting for Hojberg/McTominay
German Transfer window closes in one hour

Do the math........

"Ryan Gravenberch landed early this morning ahead of a move to Liverpool. He's currently undergoing a medical ahead of a five-year contract"

Palhinha has also undergone his Bayern medical.

Papers are in order. Everyone is waiting on Fulham....

Not too hot on Gravenberch but this seems like a decent fee, he's young and doesn't take the non-homegrown slot. A bit like the Chamberlain signing (but fit and available) - great if it works out, not too fussed if it doesn't

I'm afraid Macca will have to play the DM role more often than expected but this looks quite good on paper, doesn't it?

DM - Endo/Macca/Stefan
LCM - Macca/Curtis/Thiago
RCM - Szobo/Gravenberch/Elliott

I am thinking that we may do away with a specific DM role, like pre-Fabinho, although play Endo/Stefan there when needed.

I suspect that Macca/Szobo +1 will be fluid and can drop to cover each other. Macca May start slightly deeper, but will have freedom to get forward with one of the others dropping deeper alongside TAA or Robbo.
