Just head to the train station at the airport and look on the departure board or ask customer service for train to Liverpool with no changes. Don't worry about which rail network.

Thanks, will take note...

No way.... if we got a room he'd be worrying about how to split the bar tab without offending me and the potential benefits of the next train timetable. It would just be too much for me to cope with

Yeah, basically there's different rail networks using the same lines, as long as it gets you to liverpool lime St with no changes it's fine.

Should you need a taxi from there walk to the left or right hand sides of the station, & there's taxi's on both sides waiting. It's too far to walk (realistically) so you will need a taxi or bus, taxi will obv cost more but will be easier. Should you wanna know about a bus I'm sure someone can fill you in, never got a bus there from town myself, pretty sure it's the 26 or 27 though.

Think it's still the 27. been a while since i got the bus to the ground myself

It's gonna be the best trip ever. Everything else will fall into place. You will meet some amazing people, and learn to avoid the bad ones, and go home with some brilliant stories to tell, I reckon. But only if you get the 17.

You can catch a train from the airport direct to LIverpool Lime Street without the need to change. Costs about £13 return I think and takes about 1hr 10mins
Great but I'm all confused with northern rail, transpennie express, metro rail etc etc... which company of rail do I need to take? Pardon me if I sound stupid....
Just buy your ticket at the station and hop on whatever is there going to Lime Street, there are only two platforms so you don't have much choice.

it'll take about an hour to get to Lime Street.

You lot are bloody useless !

He asked for :

a) trains
b) hotel
c) things to do

It's been a while since I lived there lad so I'm sure these buggers can sort you out once they put their minds to it. I remember Vlad talking last year about some decent hotels that won't cost you a fortune ?

The #1 trip is a tour of the ground (you MUST book at least a month (?) in advance to get your preferred day/time) - nice to tie it in with match day if you can (vs. Norwich would be better as you want to enjoy the craic leading up to United). Get yourself down to the Albert Dock for half a day, the two cathedrals are worth a visit, if you are a Beatles fan then you can do the Beatles trip of Liverpool or even if not you should still go to Matthew St to see the Cavern (not the original but near enough) and sample the interesting shops in that area (though some of the best, Probe Records for example, no longer exist), lots of museums and galleries and if you have a whole day free then take a long day trip over to the old Roman city of Chester (lots to see and a very compact city centre).

If you are staying and doing a bit of tourist stuff you are better staying in the centre and close to the Albert Dock.
Depends what you budget is.
Budget wise there is the Premier Travel Inn next to the Beatles Story, which is very good, and close by is a Holiday Inn express. If your budget stretches further there is a nice Hilton just opposite the Albert Dock as part Liverpool 1. There is now a new Days Inn close by, there is also a new boutique hotel called Indigo , that seems quite good

I think you are meant to be doing a bit of work on this yourself as well, hence the element of flippancy 😉
