I think BR is fatally wounded now. His continuance in the position will invite intense pressure and speculation which will explode into recriminations after any and every defeat or below par performance. I think he should be taken out of the firing line for his own sake. I think he's a good coach who has been dealt a poor hand by the owners and circumstance (selling Suarez, Sturridge's injury, Gerrard's mid season retirement) and has lost his way and possibly the players. He'll be better for this experience and I expect him to coach on the continent as is Moyes, returning when sufficient time has passed.

The people who need to get a grip are the owners who need a better structure in place, monitor it properly and personally and use recognized successful professionals to run a famous club to compete for major trophies, not leave the club to descend into a business unit with the ultimate aim to generate profits and investor 'value'.

After their own statements about understanding iconic clubs like our and the Boston Red Sox their actions since have been sporadic and disappointing. They need to get involved, not devolve all the responsibility to a mid 40's guy with little top flight experience. Poor management.

Regarding point one, we didn't have a striker and we didn't get 4th. People want him gone because since Utd and pre Xmas we were woeful. Whether that's all down to him is moot. It's his team and he gets judged on their results.

And no, people would probably be more patient if we had got 4th. But we didn't so it's not worth discussing. We should deal with the reality not hypotheses.
 
I find what's even madder than our recent form is the fact that Jason is posting more seriously in FF and seems to have gain considerable headway in forming sensible, coherent sentences.

I personally thought BR should've gone because I thought he lost the dressing room, the club doesn't and wants him to have another go. I want us to support him now, and hope he has learnt from last seasons mistakes.

People will get on his case now regardless, a minority pretty much want him to fail, but I think most people are fair enough about it to take a similar stance to you.
 
What he certainly needs to do is solve one of the problems that's dogged his team since he came: namely, the slow start. I don't know how much it's to do with the fitness regime, the coaching or the mentality - I guess some mixture of the three - but his teams seem to need several months before they develop the pace and attitude required for the fast pressing game that has won him his best moments as manager. But he won't have that time next season. He must hit the ground running. Literally. There can't be any 'some players are still learning my style' excuses. They need to win and in some style in August and September, otherwise I think he's got no hope at all.

Definitely. Though we did experience this under Rafa, for differing reasons - rotating early to keep fresh legs for later, which would usually mean we dropped off the pace earlier and played catch up later. We do need a different approach, I think we should look to tighten up from the off, even at the expense of attacking play.
 
Yes. As you say, it's not an entirely new thing. The great Liverpool teams were notoriously slow starters in terms of performance, but they got results. I think how they coped was to start by passing the ball quickly, and then, after Christmas, the players moved more quickly, too. Personally I think Rodgers' teams, especially last season, pass the ball way too slowly, It's all running and hesitation. Unlike the classic teams of the past, who were good enough to almost walk up a pitch, they're very vulnerable when they're not bombing forward at lightning speed, and they don't actually pass the ball promptly enough or intelligently enough.
 
Alberto was one of those players who could pass intelligently and slow the pace, but he was skinny shit with 0 presence. We need a diddy type player.

This slow start thing that he used about 50 times last season, I'm not sure how much it is us and how much it is the opposition. Granted we have had games where we've been a bit lethargic, but teams also seemed to have sussed our game a fair bit and try and get out of the traps against us also and get in our faces, this seems to disrupt us. It's a bit like the arse where they're surprised and disappointed the the opposition wont play attacking football against them and let them counter at speed.
 
If BR allows our back line to continue that tippy tappy stuff around the 18 yard line then we'll get beat early on and he'll be out of a job. He's got almost zero tolerance in August and September. A heavy defeat - gone, a loss to an unfancied team - gone, a loss at home - gone. As per the thread theme he needs to get a grip on this.

A return to rapid starts, smash and grab football is needed. That opening goal is often the decider, it needs to be us getting it. I feel sorry for BR he's in an almost no win situation. He needs a lot of support and I'm not sure he'll get it.
 
We had 6 wins in a row last season (until @RedNinja) put that post up and jinxed it. Last season some of those games were for the taking, its like doing all the foreplay but because you have a limp penis you wont score regardless how big the vagina is. We really need someone upfront who can stick it in.
If we can do that we got a real chance.
We have to protect our arse hole too, because that was getting pummelled by the opposition. It needs strengthening an tightening before anything reaches the rim. A DM should do that.

It's fairly simple. Our owners don't know what they are doing. Our manager has been found out. Our buying and selling of players is dreadful. We are poorly run from top to bottom. Any club poorly run will not succeed. Any club run well will.
We were fortunate to be run by an exceptional group of people from 1959 until that empty suit David Moores was given the club by his smarter elders.
If Villa was run brilliantly they would be up at the top year after year. Same goes for Newcastle, Spurs, Everton etc.
If the Chavs, mancs and the Arse were run like Villa, Everton etc they would be shit.
We are currently shit.
