I agree with the comments suggesting Benitez should have sent on help for Torres instead of replacing him. I was annoyed at Gerrard when I read about his reaction to the subbing however, having watched it, his reaction is perfectly reasonable given the situation.

Benitez seems so interested in protecting Torres by restricting his time on the field yet has no interest in protecting him when on the field. I'm tired of seeing and reading about the finest striker in the world isolated on his own against two centre halves and being kicked from pillar to post. That's what players like Kuyt are for for fuck's sake.
 
I can't stop watching that clip. It really is fascinating, and sums up how most of us feel I think. Utter bewilderment and frustration.

I've got to the point where if I don't laugh, I'll cry. I don't think Gerrard's too from that either by the look on his face.

Seriously there is a valid point there.
I know Torres likes playing up front (or thinks he does) on his own, and has said as much himself , last year when things were going well anyway.
This year however is a different matter, things have not been going as well, we don't have the same team , certain players are not carrying the same form and the opposition have sussed it out. Torres has cut a very isolated and frustrated figure up front on several occasions.
I don't think he is particularly -but no wonder Rafa thinks he is tired, he has no one to take the weight off him and share the kickings , Wilko makes a fair point about Kuyt.

I think you're right vladders, he was fine playing up front on his own in previous seasons because Gerrard was near his best form scoring 20 goals and near 20 assists. Now with Gerrard not at his best, he's just been too isolated up front to be effective. Gotta stick Purple in behind him and push Gerrard back or... I don't know................. BUY ANOTHER FUCKING STRIKER BENITEZ FFS!
 
Sticking Aqua in behind him is all well and good...but the guy hasn't consistently put together even a handfull of starts yet without instantly been dropped or having some form of injury or illness!! We really need another 20 goal a season striker/hole player to get us back in contention for the league next year....oh, and a new manager!!

Its true, but if it gets Lucas out of the starting eleven and Gerrard can find form in a deeper role its the lesser of two evils with the players available right now!
 
We4ll, I don't think we have seen anywhere near enough of Aqualani to say if he can or he can't . All I do know is the one game he did play there he looked pretty good.
He needs a run there but that is seemingly not possible for one reason or another
