Gerrard's face after the substitution

I've said it for ages, Gerrard is as sick of Rafa as we are. It's been obvious since last year when we threw it all away in February.

It may as well have been this -

Must win game. MUST WIN. ABSOLUTELY MUST WIN.

Takes off Torres.

Genius.

Our tactical genius.

Was that a look of "what are you doing you @&$@&$" ??

I remember seeing that face in the last days of Houllier.

Disbelief and utterly disgrace by the decision of that moron. No fucking chance under this fucking manager.

Yeah, the disgust was plain. And Gerrard's mate Henry Winter is spouting off about it on Twitter (seen on BBC text commentary). I hope he's told Christian Purslow how he feels.

Did Torres ask to come off? Was he shocked to come off?
Injured.
Behave.

How come Torres looked so shocked when he realised he was being taken off then?

The look said it all. And Torres' utter look of bemusement when he realised he was being subbed was also obvious.
Oh, and did anyone else see Torres with his head in his hands behind Benitez in around the 81st-82nd minute? He looked shattered.

Torres looked absolutely fucked and was invisible the entire game.
Ngog looked a greater threat when he came on.
Ngog is not a very good player, but if you are subbing Torres that is what we got.
And Torres was done with this game.

That's bullshit. Simple fact. You do not take off your best players.

I'd have had no problem with him bringing Wash on - but not for our BEST GOALSCORER BY FUCKING MILES. It was a terrible decision, and the only possible justification for it is the Benfica match. Fucked-up priorities by Rafa.

I agree mate he got into better spaces in the time he was on then Torres all the game, Torres looked aboslutely knackered, he was getting no luck at all from the game, and i suppose Torres fancied having ice on his knee for a laugh then

I'm not really going to have a go at the sub because torres really wasn't in the mood for it today and poor as ngogs finishes were he clearly was in the mood. coming from someone who thinks torres is THE best striker in the word his attitude is starting to STINK when we play away from home. I would be very interested to know torres' ratio of goals home compared to goals scored away.

Seconded, Torres wouldve scored those chances Ngog had. Thats the difference.

I agree with these two^^

But theres 2 ways to look at it:

1. Torres came off and we created a lot of chances - therefore good tactical decision
2. Birmingham got tired after Torres came off, so we should have left him on to take advantage of this

Either way if we had someone better than ngog that would have been an acceptable decision and we would have won the game today.

because, let's face it, torres never misses sitters.
I seem to remember two missed at manu and one missed just thursday, to be fair I didn't think it was a sitter but people pulled me up said it WAS a sitter so I'll go with their opinion.

The end must surely be close.

If Jose comes in I think Stevie will stay, anyone else or god forbid more Benitez - and he may seriously consider his options.

After cooling down from when the decision was actually made, N'gog's cameo was very productive to our overall play, sadly it was his and other's finishing that ultimately f*cked it up for us.

BUT, as much as I love him, Kuyt was absolutely devastatingly bad, and I'm more f*cked off with taking off arguably the best striker in world football over a quite clearly zero productivity Dirk for N'gog.

I don't think, for the chances that we created once Torres went off, that Ngog did anything to get into those positions that even a 'tired' Torres wouldn't have done to get into them. And I know who I'd rather have on the end of them.

look, personally I wouldn't have taken off torres but you have the evidence of your own eyes, after torres went off an absolute SEA of chances were created so obviously the subs must of had a positive influence

I understand that some here see the sub as symbolic of Rafa's tenure, and I guess that is why you are so worked up about it.
But if I was to have a go at Rafa for this game I have a long list of things that are much more aggravating:

In a must win game we see:

  • [li]Cautious, negative tactics[/li]
    [li]Slow pace[/li]
[li]Strange line up, with Gerrard deep, Benny on the wrong side and no Aquilani, Babel or Mascherano.[/li]
[li]And as usual, too little too late with subs and change in tactics.[/li]

The sub is a minor issue.

This.

I'm more upset about the cautious, negative tactics (and poor players executing them) than taking Nando off. We only started playing 20mins from time. That's just unacceptable, and all too frequent during Rafa's tenure. It's the main reason why I want Rafa to step down.

Fair point. I really thought that Babel should have been on from the start under instruction that's he's playing for his future and a massive performance was needed. And then I'd have swapped Kuyt for Yossi later on, to give him a warm up run-out before the Benfica game.

The 'triple face palm' pic would be an injustice.

It was very subtle, but having watched Gerrard sulk all season, I have grown adept at detecting even the slightest mood changes.
His brow was slightly more furrowed, and he seemed to look away thinking "Why God, WHY?", instead of his usual "Woe is me".

It pretty much said "WHAT THE FUCK???!!! YOU'RE DOING WHAT??!! YOU CUNT" in a facial expression.
