I said this to my dad as soon as I heard his collapsed in training and his season was over. He's 30 and even throughout the prime of his career this groin problem has plagued him, and I'm convinced he's played large parts of his career not feeling 100% with it. I wouldn't be surprised if this was it.

It's probably too soon to tell, but since the operation was a success we should know more after his post-op and rehab.

He's been a great player and is a true LFC legend, fact is though we can't rely on Stevie anymore.

Albeit a weakened squad and poor season but we have relied on him this season at times and regardless of who is brought in this summer the fact remains that he can still take games by the scruff of the neck and influence them. I refuse to believe these knee jerk reactions that he's finished or we cant rely on him, he's a world class player and when his legs give in he'll use his experience to stay at the top level.....that I am positive of!!

He's already gone 30 and how many games has he missed through injury over the last few seasons?

I don't doubt he can still produce the goods when he's actually on the pitch, but getting him on the field seems to be increasingly difficult.

Ryan are you putting yourself on a higher plane once again?

I'd be curious to see if anyone ever retired because of a loin problem..

Edit: quick search just indicates woodgate was pondering retirement but op was success. Mind you he's out now again with something else. Anyone got any other retirements?
