Two footed challenge, could have really hurt Carrick. Clearly a red card.

Webb was wrong about the penalty but he got the Gerrard decision right.

Gerrard owes his teammates an apology.

I only saw it on a stream, but it didn't look that bad at all to me. Stupid, maybe, but borderline rather than stonewall as a red card.

Bollocks.

definite yellow, harsh red ... Webb ended the game essentially with that call, and as he's got a track record with 'pro-Manc' decisions, I think we have a reason to be disappointed.

Glad someone watched the game I did.

My first reaction was it was a yellow. It looked worse on the replay but I still thought it was a yellow.

No doubt about the challenge being foolish; the only possible result was something negative.

Two footed off the ground is a red card. I thought it was a yellow at best at first but it was a red.

Gary Bailey said that he thought it was a harsh red, yellow at the very least!

Rafael two footed challenge on Raul overlooked.

If the ref was applying the letter of the law, he should be even handed and he got 2 decisions wrong that cost us the game!

Whilst he's at it, maybe the rest of the team can apologise to Gerrard for playing like cunts all season.

Howard Webb knows a red when he see's them. De Jong karate kick on Alonso in the World Cup springs to mind.

Yep it was a 50-50 ball, and i would have been disappointed if he didn't go in to win that ball. His boot was off the ground, and he deserved a yellow for that. Web is a shitbag. He won them the game...

But ya...whatever. Lets look at the positives and hope to thrash Everton. I hope Johnson plays on the right wing. Why didn't he play today?

The rules say you can't go in two footed and you can't get off the ground, Gerrard did both, after looking at it a few times, it was the correct decision.

Anyone comparing Gerrard's tackle to Rafael's is just being silly, no comparison whatsoever.

From what I saw on TV, SG was going for the ball side by side with Carrick going the same direction. Very harsh red.

The team made me proud today. Worked their socks off.
You saw the look on Dalglish face when he saw the challenge on the monitor. He knew it was a red card.
He's the captain after all and today he not only disappointed me but he disappointed the new manager and the players who all were looking hungry today and ready to come from Manchester with a good result.

This. I cannot believe people are actually saying it wasn't a red. Two feet & off the ground is a red every day of the week.

Yes, technically a red I reckon but there could have been some leeway granted because gerrard didn't go right into the player but across him.

In a head to head, straight on tackle definitely. The direction from which both players came from, and the fact that the ball was there to be won, make it less dangerous. By the letter of the law it's a red.

I wouldn't have been surprised to see it given as a yellow, though. Nor was I surprised it was red.

Leeway? With Webb?

hahahahahaha.

I can't agree with that. He went in to play the ball and was a split second from winning it. He was unlucky. I think the red card was the correct call (letter of the law and all that bollocks), but it's not as if he was having a sulky game and put in a horrible challenge because he was pissed oof.

If that's what the rules say, then Rafael should have been penalised, whether you compare the two tackles or not. You can't have it black & white for one and shades of grey for the other.

Yeah it was unlucky but did he really need to win the ball like that in the middle of the pitch.
This isn't the first time we've seen Gerrard do that.

That sums it up nicely.

Surely if stevie's was a red, so too was rafael's 2 footed tackle moments earlier on meireles? Inconsistency from Webb.
