god i wish he'd break in half under the weight of his own smugness

The whole thing was fantastic. The tackle, him running over to show the ref his injury (look what that mean man did!), him falling over, Gerrard calling him whatever he called him, him crying, the stretcher, etc.

Marvelous.

On a completely seperate note - he's slowly turning into a pretty adequate replacement for Ronaldo. As much of a whoping bellend as he is, he's also absolute quality too. Which is annoying.

That's what I thought. I was 90 seconds designed to give great pleasure to Liverpool supporters and tremendous discomfort and embarrassment to Man Utd fans.

Has anyone mentioned Nani's treatment of the medical people who were stretchering him off?

Sadly ... He's a fantastic talent. We have to at least be grateful that Slur has yet to harness Anderson's talent.

Carragher gave the ref a reason to send him off and reduce his team to 10 men when they had a two goal lead and over half the game remaining.

Not the smartest thing to do.

Only you Wilko, only you could find something to complain about in a 3-1 thumping of Man United.

You and Dreambeliever of course. Esteemed company.

Everyone's over looking the fact that it wasn't just the Portuguese winger who was put out of the game. The sight of a Nani's gash also made sure Rooney's mind wasn't where it should have been for the rest of the game.

You kids aren't used to this are you?

It was part and parcel of the game, a few decades ago. Carra was not prepared to stand there all afternoon and have a cunt like nani rip him a new arse-hole , so he sorted it himself, he got away with it and took Uniteds only threat out of the game, get over it

I'm starting to think I'm old school too.

I know when I play rugby you do everything you can to ensure somebody good is taken out of the game without damaging your own team. Carragher did that today. Fuck the moral judgments, he did it, we won. Happy days.

And you'd both be applying the same ethereal posts had the roles been reveresed and a United player commited the same 'threat reducer' to Suarez's leg leaving him with a gash and off on a stretcher, yes?

You're a tiresome sack of shite, aren't you? I passed comment on Carragher's tackle in a thread about (yes, you've guessed it) Sky's coverage of Carragher's tackle. This is a discussion on an incident in the game and not a celebration of a wonderful game and result. See the difference?

Fuck off.

Not taking a stance on the morality of it one way or the other really Ryan, just pointing out what I think happened and why.
I am also pointing out that from the perspective that it was stupid, it turns out it wasn't, it could have been but he got away with it

To surmise:

- Carra's tackle deserved a red. Very poor unnecessary tackle that could have gifted United a way back into the game.

- Hard to have any sympathy for Nani. It's a case of the boy who cried wolf. Literally he was crying today. He's feigned injury enough times to get opponents sent off or cautioned.

- Maxi challenge looked a reckless one, but one that he pulled out at the last second. His foot was still high though so it was deserving of a yellow card.

- Rafael challenge was one with bad intent. Two footed. Off the ground. Red card. Was lucky to escape it. Ref probably was lenient because of the Carragher incident.

- Oh and for those who say "well Rafael wouldn't have jumped in had Maxi and Carra got sent off for their challenges". That's revisionism. The incidents can not be linked like that. They're independent and one doesn't excuse another. If we were to use that logic, we can make an argument about how Carra wouldn't have dived into the challenge on Nani had the ref given Luis Suarez a freekick 10 minutes earlier when Evra bundled him off the ball unceremoniously.
