Kenny Dalglish refused to condemn Jamie Carragher for his horror challenge on Nani during Liverpool's 3-1 victory over Manchester United at Anfield.

The former England centre-back was shown a yellow card by referee Phil Dowd for his high tackle just below the knee which resulted in the Portugal international departing the pitch on a stretcher and in tears shortly before the interval.

Carragher's moment of madness marked the start of a tense few minutes in the enthralling clash prior to half-time, with Maxi Rodriguez escaping punishment for lunging at Rafael, and the young United defender also fortunate to only see yellow after a two-footed tackle on Lucas.

Kenny should rightly back his players. If he is unhappy about anything it will be handled behind closed doors like it should be.

The media are so predictable. Focus on how good Liverpool were for a change and give credit where its due.

"Horror challenge" is a journalistic exaggeration. I saw it at the match and watched the recording on TV when I got back. It was a bad and clumsy tackle but not horrific. It's true that many referees would have sent Carragher off but Dowd isn't one of those referees who get carried away by the excitement. He didn't give Rafael a red card for his rather worse "horror challenge" shortly afterwards either.

If he had sent Carra off, he would have had to send Rafael off too.

Well done Mr. Dowd.

Mr Dowd had a good game. We havent lost the last 13 games he has been in charge..

I liked it after the Rafael challenge when he just stepped back and let the players make cunts of themselves before sorting it out.

If an opposition player had made a challenge like Carragher's on one of our players, we would have been screaming for a red. Carragher, and indeed the team, were lucky he escaped a dismissal. It was a poor challenge, and what's more, it was completely unnecessary.

I thought Dowd had a good game bar a few decisions but it evened out over the course of the game.

I thought Carra was lucky to stay on TBH, but at the same time (a) Rafael's challenge was at least as bad and (b) Nani should have gone too for manhandling the ref.

So was Rafael's, at least Carra's was clumsy.

Fair play to Souey for his comments too. He said Kenny should get given a contract today based on what we've done against United and Chelsea.

Souey also said that Maxi could have seen red for sticking his leg out on Rafael's thigh.

Madness. Should have been a yellow, mind.

I think Carra's tackle was unnecessary and worthy of a red. I don't know if it was intentional (Rafael's was as he was pissed about Maxi swiping him) - but that doesn't vindicate Carra's tackle.

Yup.

Rafael went into the tackle wrecklessly off the back of the Maxi challenge, likely with the intent to hurt Lucas/ or at least not care if he did harm Lucas.

Carra's takcle was just hard and clumsy. Both should were Yellows, one should have been a red.

Rafael's.

A manc "friend" of mine is saying that Maxi tackled Rafael "waist high"!!

What bollocks! He grazed his thigh in a chicken shit, bottlers challenge. What happened next was far worse then Carraghers challenge.

So, if they review Carra's, then they have to review Rafael's. I'm too cynical for my own good but lets watch the FA and the refs give Carra a suspension and ignore the Manc player.

If they do that I hope we seriously consider taking them to court for judicial review, because (a) we'd have a good case and (b) it'd blow their weakness and incompetence wide open.

Carra instant red
Maxi likewise (chicken shit or not he could have broken his leg)
Rafael yellow
[/quote]

Rafael's is a red according to the rules.

And I'm not sure how Maxi could have broke Rafael's leg... didn't he hit his waist?

Ah, good to see Dreambeliever supporting the Scum for a change.

Roy Keane doesn't play for them anymore (not that that seems to matter).

hmmmmmmmmmmmm not convinced by the maxi incident. A yellow i can understand, but he was pulling out all the time. as for it not being a red for Raphael... come on pat

_Heaton: Nani are you ok? Are you ok, Nani? Nani are you ok? Are you ok? Are you ok, Nani? (robbed from @NicoFleche85 )"

Fucking.LOL.

You amaze me.

Has anyone got a link to the incident or a photo, as I'm sure it was above his leg, hence it making it very impressive if he'd have broke it.

I'm convinced he doesn't actually know his arse from a Manure player.

Utter tripe.

The funny thing about sky condemning it is that after the game I had a look on redcafe and all those c*nts were on about how the media and sky especially wouldn't even mention it because it was Carragher , when cleary wilkins and Souness had both called it a disgrace!
Its the fact that they so blatantly ignored the facts while wearing their massive scum coloured goggles that im delighted that Carragher got away with it and couldnt give a fuck if nanis out for the rest of the year!

Heh. They get away with murder season after season, Rooney swearing at officials, Fergie saying what the fuck he likes, Refs getting effectively intimidated at OT. They're a law unto themselves.

I couldn't give a flying fuck what happens to them, I hate seeing players get injured, but I've got no sentiment when it comes to United over anything, because they're so fucking sore, biased and corrupt. They are the epitome of everything that's wrong with the football governing body in this country, because they're protected by it and use it to their full advantage every season.

Fuck them.
