FSG

Yeah, I think that’s about right - I wonder if it’s about Mike Gordon stepping away and Billy Hogan’s promotion that has created a lack of focus and direction.

I totally agree, the strategy of self funding is fair, but you have to be absolutely top notch in other areas if you aren’t going to chuck money at problems and we really haven’t been overly smart in our recruitment - whether it’s been top end or youth. - it’s just been ok rather than the innovative & world class we need to compete with oil state backed clubs or raging maniacs like Boehly.

You’d expect

Why is the strategy of self-funding fair?

Seems like greed enabled by gullible, economically illiterate fans, if you ask me.

.....ALL top sides strengthen while they're still strong. FSG either haven't learned that lesson or have refused to adapt their approach to take account of it. An LFC seriously intending to maintain its top level status would be starting this season with Gvardiol in defence and Bellingham in midfield. Without that ambition we won't maintain that status.
This, in a nutshell. The time to have been chasing the likes of Bellingham etc was in the period when the team/squad was still strong, challenging at the top of the league and in Europe. Even last summer, having come so close to chasing down a quadruple, would have been the time to attract fresh talent to strengthen and develop the squad, not wait until we are on the wane, with no CL football to offer.

The thing that is so sad in this is when you put it into context.

Bellingham coming on for real Madrid now. He's the one we were waiting for, right? With tchouameni behind him, also playing? Then third and fourth choices proving elusive.

But we were waiting, right. To avoid doing on the cheap what we must now do at great cost, in desperation?

It was hard to find someone better than what we had, now we've simplified that by having no one. And, elsewhere in the squad we are assuming everything is fine because it was just about fine. So as it was with henderson and fabinho, now with our defense.

Just to be clear I meant the young jolly Richard Briers of The Good Life era, not the angst-riddled one from his Ever Decreasing Circles phase.

The funny thing is I had Richard Prior in my head when I read that. So I thought "that's an odd reference by GH"...

Oh Felicity, Felicity, you fill me with Electricity.. (name the person who said that)

I'm still waiting on my prize from @localny

It was one of Rik's memorable compositions from The Young Ones, but is well eclipsed by "Neil, Neil, orange peel"

OK, think we all knew the £250m summer spend was pie in the sky. I FSG defence maybe the funds that were to be invested just did not materialize, so I can for give then that... What can not be forgiven was the claim they made that they would back Jurgen Klopp in the stransfer market this summer.

That is their M.O. claim one thing while delivering some thing else.
These clowns should just fuck off already

it was very impressive TB - I award you the title of trivia champ of the month of scm. You get a dinner with Moises once he signs

Imagine not appointing a proper Sporting Director for the most important rebuild in years.
I guess they are "waiting for someone special", like is the habit.

I don't know much about other football club owners. Who would you swap FSG with if given the chance?

I’m happy they came to the party with some good funds and I agree they should have had better planning but the Saudi money seems to be the difference here which is why we are in the market a little later than usual. This is what happens.

Having said that, again I will say owning a club with about 3.5 bn in equity you can borrow against and failing to purchase replacements while we were on top is incredibly small time penny pinching. they saved a penny and it cost them a pound.

Smartest people in the room they are not

But, DS and Mac Ali were good signings with good planning too. So all is not lost.

They need to get the structure back in place. A top class DoF, and a top analytics/scouting team.

I am not too worried about the money side- we have bid for Enzo (chavs paid the clause), Tchou (wanted real), Caicedo (whatevs), and were in for Bellingham, but he chose Real.
For top talent, we are willing to pay up.
But strategy-wise, we need to be sorted, big time. We need to stop this rut where the top players we go for chose others too.

That’s the problem. We lost the original structure for whatever reason— there all sorts of explanations floating about— and have been rudderless since. Klopp’s mate just seems a desperate stop gap, similar to the signing of Mélo.

They're twats, but not as bad as the moronic fans who quack on about the importance of the "sustainable model" as if it's not the most self-serving line a bunch of billionaire scumbags have ever come up with.

I'd be willing to bet that most of the backroom boys left as a reaction to FSG not being willing to finance the further strengthening they all knew would be needed. FSG did very well fetching them in to begin with, but then fouled their own nest by failing to tweak their financial approach in response to changing circs.

Step 1. - Have a competant scounting and transfer negotiations and aquisitons dept.

Step 2 - Use the staff from step 1 to highlight and complete deals for top class players (cheap or expensive).

Step 3 - Profit.

It really shouldn't be all that difficult should it? Yet here we are, intent on making a monumental show of ourselves.....bunch of divvy twats at this club.

I hate to say it but Ferguson knew when to relaase control. This should have been sorted out a long time ago, its like we sleptwalked into this mess. Even when we had prime Gini we could have done with some decent DM understudies. Gini left and we signed Thaigo, not ecactly a like for like replacement.

This mess has been going on for years. Last season Klopp arrogantly acts like the midfield situation is all good and that we dont need any new mids. And now we our selves further and deeper in this farce! We cant blame Chelsea and the other oil teams this is on us.
