My nephew Thomas who is a drama student at Liverpool John Moores University is doing a dissertation on the subject of football and theatre. I wonder if anyone would be willing to complete his online questionnaire which is quite short and easy? Thanks!

Brian Glanville would be a good interviewee - he's always had an interest in the two spheres of activity.

Thanks very much everybody! Your contributions will make a big difference to Tom as a survey with only 2 or 3 respondents would be unconvincing when his dissertation comes to be assessed! 🙂

Done.

No.4 should be a Yes/No thing, no need for a dialogue box. That neatness might mean the difference between an A and an A*.

Thanks very much Hansem, Tal and refugee.

When I got to the question as to why I didn't go to the theatre, I said I was too lazy and there was plenty of good stuff on TV. Later I asked myself why I went to football matches, if that was the case! 😀

I said it was because I thought it was expensive and I'm not particulary interested anyway. I think I should add that, really, I'm not very interested in drama full stop: I hardly any watch TV dramas, for example. I much prefer non-fiction books as well.

Although oddly I do love films.

I said it isn't elitist in reality (it's cheaper than football and possibly easier to get to in town centres), but is perceived as elitist because of the quantity of middle or upper class people who become the most successful at acting (in the UK). I also think theatre struggles because of Shakespeare (and all that incomprehensible rambling in his plays), which is what a lot of people think about when the subject comes up. I think the last thing people should study when they first look at the theatre and plays is The Bard, it's so offputting. Let them come to that later.

For someone not very interested, you've certainly caused masses of it in that other thread. 😉

Done.

I was looking for somewhere to fill in 'I only go to the theatre because the wife makes me' but couldn't fit it in.

Thanks everybody! Tom will be delighted with the response to his questionnaire. Respectability already guaranteed. 🙂
