Is now 26 and has accomplished fuck all since leaving us.. 4 goals in his first 5 games with Athletico to end up with 5 in 40.. It's such a shame as I was gutted when he left and felt he could've played a major part for us in the future.

Now at Sporting CP but loaned to ?Zaragoza?

Re: Florent Sinama-Pongolle

I quite liked the lad as well, but I don't know that I could see him playing a major part.

Re: Florent Sinama-Pongolle

He had a good attitude on the pitch but for whatever reason he didn't develop quickly enough during his time with us, and now he's just an poor to average footballer applying his trade wherever he can.

Oh well.

Re: Florent Sinama-Pongolle

Still wonder what would have happened if he and Le Tallec had gone to Arsenal instead though. I don't think we helped.

Fuck that, it's Liverpool or France for me mate.

Re: Florent Sinama-Pongolle

Who cares?

I was half afraid that he had a stroke while playing or something. I didn't really expect that he would get a thread on here for footballing reasons.

Re: Florent Sinama-Pongolle

So none of Ged's much vaunted French kids cut the mustard in the Premiership.

How much did Ged spend on young talent? I'd be interested!

Re: Florent Sinama-Pongolle

Well he signed 40 players in total. Its debatable which you'd count as young. Generally I'd consider it to mean players that aren't necessarily bought to play immediately.

There was Frode Kippe for 700k, Traore and Vignal, for about 500k each.
Le Tallec and Pongolle for about 3m between them.
Daniel Sjoilund for 1m and then a few others, Alou Diarra, Carl Medjani and Patrice Luzi, who were all free.

You might include Biscan (5.5m), Baros (3.2m) and Kirkland (6m) too.

Overall, not great really.

Oh, and i quite liked Pongolle. Better than Le Tallec, who was a useless cunt.

Or Xabi Alonso. Or Javier Mascherano. Or Alvaro Arbeloa...

That cliché has lost a bit of meaning in recent years.

Re: Florent Sinama-Pongolle

I thought cinema popcorn was magnificent against olympiakos(sp) he dragged us back into the game and although it was gerrard that took the plaudits (fair enough he did score the winning goal) I thought it was largly down to sinema that that gerrard goal was more than a consolation.

Really? I know he scored just after half time, and that's about all I recall.

He set up Mellor aswell...

Re: Florent Sinama-Pongolle

This can't be true cos Rafa sold him at the wrong time, Rafa never gave him a chance, he's better than Cisse, he's gonna be a star, Rafa didn't trust youngsters like him, here's a new thread about him everytime he scores a goal for Atletico and all sorts of other stuff.

I thought his drive and detrimination was pushing olymp back when before they were pretty much controlling the game. he also created a peach of a chance for kewell who really should have done better.

Re: Florent Sinama-Pongolle

He scored a couple of times when we beat Luton town in the FA cup after being a few goals down

great performance from sinema in that game.

Re: Florent Sinama-Pongolle

Interesting bit of old players trivia..

Garcia (30 goals in 77 appearances for us) has only scored twice since his departure... (in 73 appearances).

Bring him back?

He's only scored two goals in his last 73 games, so no.

Re: Florent Sinama-Pongolle

Yeah, that ship has sailed.

Though it would be nice.

Re: Florent Sinama-Pongolle

Btw I wasn't seriously advocating bringing back a 32 year old from the greek league who's done fuck all since leaving us..

Sanz Luis Garcia
He drinks Sangria
He came from Barce
To Bring us joy
He's 5'7
He's football heaven
So please dont take, our Luis, away...

Re: Florent Sinama-Pongolle

I liked Pongo. Good impact player from the bench, no more mind. Difficult to ask a young kid to accept that as their sum total. He needed to move on. Doesn't mean he was shit.
