First time at Anfield

Just returned from my first ever game at Anfield – big thanks to @Woland for the tickets and nice conversation afterwards! This was an amazing experience and hearing YNWA on the first home game of the season was just surreal. I am dog-tired after a long day, so just a couple of thoughts/rants:

1. LFC fans really know their football. I was sitting at the centenary stand with other season-ticket holders and I heard more intelligent commentary and spot-on tactical analysis in those 90 minutes than in the whole season of watching the games on American TV. They are also quite impatient – every time we weren't attacking full-speed was greeted with discontent and shouts of "get on with it." Now I understand how the crowd at Anfield affects players – you just have to run as hard as you can for 90 minutes and give it your all or the crowd will be on your back.
2. Anfield seats are probably the smallest and most uncomfortable seats I've ever sat on. I was fortunate the seat in front of me was empty, otherwise my knees would press on someone's back. It felt like trying to squeeze into a toddler's seat or a toy car.

3. Fans at the Kop were excellent and the away fans made a lot of noise, but the two main stands almost never joined in the songs (except for YNWA). Also I can never understand people who are leaving 5 minutes before the final whistle. I understand the desire to get home early, but it kind of spoils the experience for others and just makes no sense when the game's result is still in the balance.

Anyway, it was a cracking experience – 90 minutes felt like 15, quite literally. I envy those of you who can do this every week.

Glad you enjoyed it mate. As for the people leaving 5 minutes before full-time thing, I can understand why it pisses people off, but it's usually for valid reasons in fairness...whether that's to catch their train home, flight (out of towner alert) or get to their car before the traffic is choker or whatever as they set off on a long journey home.
The last one might sound a bit lame but by and large people getting off early isn't because they don't care.

Christ, if you think the centenary seats are bad, wait until you sit in the Anfield Road end.

It's more understandable on a weeknight kick off, but I figure half an hour difference getting home is worth it. Let's face it, what's the point in travelling for hours as some fans do, only to miss a goal for the sake of half an hour?!

That's exactly how I think of it, my journey is 8 hours over two days, like fuck I'm going to miss even 10 seconds of the match. Luckily for me, thanks to that superb parking spot you and Spion showed me, I can leave even five minutes after the final whistle and easily avoid all of the traffic, it's amazing how much difference a brisk walk makes!

What? Where? I spent longer than I would chose to in St Domingo's last night.

Here, it's a good 20 minute walk, but if you walk with purpose you can do it in 10, it's really easy to get back out and onto the M62 after the game too, 5 minutes top. You really need to get there 30mins before kick off though as it does start to fill up, although I did manage to find a space at 8pm at the Madrid game.

Cheers mate. The M62 was my undoing yesterday. It was heaving...even worse the A1 en route to the M62 was horrific. I usually come down the M6 but I thought, new season, new route...what can go wrong! I took my usual M6 route home and did it in under three hours compared to the four plus it took to get there!

M62 was what caught me out at the Madrid game, there was a crash and the M62 was literally at a standstill, thankfully in a bizarre moment of on the spot thinking from myself, I turned off at the M57 and went down the A57, which were both empty, and managed to get to the game, I'm sure I wouldn't have made the first half otherwise.

I'm not sure exactly where you set off from, but another tip I've picked up from Spion is to go up the M1, then cut across the A50 at Derby, which brings you out at Stoke, cutting out the majority of the M6, it's a great route, the 30 miles of M6 you travel on is still the slowest part of the journey, but as you miss the majority of that concrete hell, it's pretty good!

What's the story with Shiel Road Mystic, is it on road parking, or some sort of "gizza fiver" private land job?

Not that I mind either if its 5mins off the M62...

Road / up the curb parking, I've never had any problems whatsoever parking there.

My journey is 200 miles there and 200 back. I've never, ever left early. Why go all that way and risk missing a vital moment?

People do it, I don't understand it, but I just can't do it. I'm not a superfan btw, I chose to support the club that far away, or rather the club sucked me in. I just love being in the ground and the city. Sad but very true.

It's got cctv all over it, 10 mins to the ground and its 10 mins from the 62 if you cut through Kenny. Better than sitting on Queens Drive for 30 mins.

Usually no scallies either.

I had too. But I changed and it's great. Got a couple of spots I use. But you can usually use Liam's Dads pass if they're not using it.
Oh I don't know. Could I? Should I? It would be changing a long held routine...it would like messing with things that shouldn't be messed with.

But hey if L's dad isn't going to charge me a £10er a time why the hell not?

Nice to meet you @rurikbird albeit briefly. Glad you enjoyed it, ugly performance but as we won, you can come again!

Haha, I'm glad I brought good rather than bad luck, I must come again for sure. Good to meet you too, mate, sorry I had to run to get some bite before the game!

Ok to catch a train or flight home then. Sometimes people have little or no choice that's what I'm saying.

For example, I booked flights for Palace game on Sunday 8th November and with it not being Televised I presumed it'd be a 3pm kick off like it's always been, but, no, the shower of cunts that are the Premier League decided to make it a 4pm kick off so in order to make my 7.45pm flight home the chances are i'll have to leave the match 5 or 10 minutes early to get my taxi to the Airport.

I won't like doing it, and people can say why don't you just stay over then, well unfortunately going to the football is expensive enough as it is without spending an extra £100+ on changing flight and a hotel for the night.

I don't think anyone would argue against you in your case mate.

When you've driven & want to avoid traffic is wholly different though.

My last visit to Anfield, I was in the Annie Lower with my 10 year old son, and even he had trouble getting comfortable.
