Firmino

Jesus there's a lot of itoldyouso's in this thread. Let's just be happy Firmino is looking the dogs bollocks instead of this 'I was first to say he was great' shite. Amen.

He scored 10 goals in the Premiership last season.

That's not enough if you are the main striker at Liverpool, or any club who wants to win the title.

And it's pretty much accepted that he is far better playing a support role to the main striker, rather than pretending to be that himself.

Let's not start getting all giddy here. He's scored 13 league goals, ever. Some of the overrating of Firmino is risible. You'd think he was almost Suarez level given some of the happy-clapping fanboyism on display here

He needs to play with Sturridge or a proper striker. That is clear. He hasn't the pace or finishing quality to make the space and score the required goals on his own.

Why does he start every week and Sturridge doesn't?

Goals he scored last year. 2 vs Arsenal (no Sturridge), 2 vs Norwich (no Sturridge), 1 at City (no Sturridge), one at Palace (no Sturridge). I can't remember the others off the top of my head. People are not overrating him, they're giving an improving player deserved praise while disagreeing with you because you are wrong.

I'm just waiting for his "off-day"... then it's back to square one.
It's basically like that Eddie Murphy bit about women, "what have you done for me lately?".

His off days are becoming less and less frequent though and even when he does have one or two he's still more than capable of coming up with an assist/goal. His numbers game at the min is very very impressive indeed.

I thought he was actually not playing that great vs Swansea – but still scored one goal and made another. Kind of evening out his luck from the games such as Leicester and Hull where he was really good, but couldn't get on the scoresheet.

He often isn't great, but still comes up with those moments to affect a game, be in through an assist or a goal, that's a great sign for me.

IMO it's more a question of him not always catching the eye. His general play is pretty good - he gets through a shedload of work and seasons it with skill when the need arises. Classic Klopp player.

He was ponderous in the first half and kept losing the ball. Did not want to say anything in this as the rest of them were shit BUT the Firm love suck should not be taken to the next level.

Yes, he had a really frustrating first half. All his passes and flicks were being intercepted and he was being bustled out of his stride (along with nearly everyone in our team). But second half, he was back to doing what he does.

He's a talented player, playing well and working really hard.

I don't like hm as the lead striker at the expense of the Sturridge and prefer him in the supporting role. I think we're a more dangerous side with Firmino, Mane and Sturridge as a front three with Wijnaldum making way, especially against lower league opposition.

-------Lallana------------------Coutinho------
----Mane---------Sturridge----------Firmino--------

"Firm love suck"

Quality stuff, moron.

You smutty rascal.

Sturridge still worries me. While I do agree with the rather obvious point about Firmino requiring a proper striker ahead of him, and on "talent" alone that is obviously Sturridge, I still have this nagging suspicion that he's slightly ....broken.

I made plenty of posts - as did loads of others - about his reluctance to sprint and worries about his ability to do so. That fear seemed assuaged after his excellent performance against Leicester, but there's been signs that that was an exception, rather than the rule. So it seems like we should indeed have bought another striker, because Origi certainly isn't good enough.

Just as long as we don't stick the Studge at LB to cover for him.

Milner actually was playing up front for Citeh not long before we signed him, and - surprise surprise - did well.

We're tied for most goals in the league and in total we havent scored this many goals in 60 odd years, but your conclusion is that we need another striker?!

Origi will also come good. Just give him time to develop. Ings scored a hat trick this weekend and is getting closer to being involved with the first team.

Its our defence we need to work on. Not blowing more money on something we dont need.

Origi has had one season with us, blighted somewhat by injury. In the time he had he showed some terrific potential. He's 20 years of age for Christ's sake.
