Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino has pulled out of the Brazil squad for next month’s World Cup qualifiers due to injury.

The 23-year-old was replaced during the first half of Liverpool's Capital One Cup penalty shoot-out victory over Carlisle after landing awkwardly following a challenge for a high ball.

Firmino will miss Brazil's World Cup qualifying matches against Chile, on October 8, and Venezuela, on October 13. He has been replaced by veteran forward Ricardo Oliveira, currently of Brazilian club Santos.

News of Firmino's injury will come as a major concern to Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, who now looks set to be without their £21.3m summer signing for the upcoming Premier League matches with Aston Villa and Everton. Firmino, who arrived from German club Hoffenheim, will also miss the Europa League group game with Sion on October 1.

Great. No Firmino, Benteke and Henderson. So basically that's two seasons where we've lost the bulk of our attacking force for fairly lengthy spells.

He might go on to be great for us eventually but at the moment this isn't a great loss. I know we need to inject some creative attacking play into the team but Firmino has offered nothing so far. Henderson is much more of a miss.

Its a miss in terms of him getting more time to adopt on the pitch. The game on wednesday would have been a good place to start.
Read he was out for about 3 weeks so not to bad an injury.

Really bad start to his career with us. I'm assuming he arrived unfit as such an expensive acquisition should be straight into the starting 11. He obviously has the quality, it could be a blessing in disguise. If our form picks up (big if) some pressure might be taken off him. Our fixtures later in the year appear a little easier on paper.

Firmino has been a huge letdown.

He's like the new Marko. Unless a new manager comes in, i doubt he's ever gonna make it here. I've seen nothing of him so far to suggest he'll be successful here.

Great. More game time for Adam Lallana, i think that's what we all need to cheer us up

Lallana, Markovic, Firmino. That's 75mios of attacking "talent" there.
If we hadn't bought them we wouldn't have missed much.

According to Rodgers he may have cracked a bone in his back.
If thats the case it will surley be more than a month.

Faaack

It may be a good thing in the long run, take him out of contention for a while and let him come back in when hes ready physically which he certainly hasnt been so far. This has Markovic part 2 written all over it at the moment so Im really hoping he comes back with a point to prove and goes on to another level, right now he looks like another expensive signing that we bought without knowing what to do with

It's hard to shine when you don't even get a chance. It's embarrassing spending so much money on players who don't immediately improve the starting 11.
